Need some input on an engine management unit

Ok so i know that there are alot of different engine management units for our dsm's... my question is there isnt a dyno tuner anywhere close to my area... i know that my build is going to need to be properly tuned but are there any good units to use that have presets?
I know on my sti i had a cobb tuner that did a hell of a job with no need to dyno tune. Wish we had a awd dyno in michigan

I think the best option for the price is ECMlink. I know a few people who ditched AEM and at half the cost the v3 of link has some very impressive features. It can be found for around $600.00USD and Ive seen used units got cheaper. As long as your EPROM then the cost of socketing is figure into this. If not they now offer the ability to convert NON EPROM for around $165.00

That's for 1g units. I don't believe the 2g non EPROM ECU can do this.

Nope. You have to tune it yourself. It's not that hard. It has presets for basic operation of the car, but everything other then that you need to adjust. If you get a wideband and all the appropriate gauges, then it's pretty straight forward.

Pump gas you should typically shoot for 11:1. If you are looking to push it further, you can try and lean out some until you are getting knock, but I wouldn't go much further as you begin to play with safety
E85 guys typically go for 11.5-12:1 and roughly the same for race gas.
Tuning is all a compensation between boost/fuel/timing

Just did some research and found that the evo 8 has a cobb tuning aplications! i am going to call cobb tuning tomorrow and get the scoop and see about custom mapping for the 2g dsm... If i can convince them on a group buy i wonder if cobb would make an acces port for the dsm.. and if not if the accessport can controll our dsm's if we run the evo 8 ecu

You are really trying to get around having to tune the car aren't you?

I see a few flaws:
1) This is COBB we are talking about. They do AP for people who have the money to spend $600 on a little thing and then you can have it Pro tuned later for more mullah. You own a DSM. Do I even need to explain how much of a contradiction those 2 sentences make? There quite literally is no market for it.

2) There are WAY too many variables in a DSM setup. Someone could be running a stock T-25 and then the next guy has a HX40 or something. I wonder what "stage" the HX40 would be? Or what about the BAZILLION turbo options that DSM's can have?

And here's a little food for thought. Evo's have AP and then TurboXS UTEC for the more "involved" tuning. A DSM has a SAFC, then a chip WITH a SAFC and then ECMLink. ECMLink offers about as much as a UTEC. Half the price, same features.

Another vote for ECM link. Pretuned maps are not really helpful, as the others have stated, there are some many ways to mod a DSM that having a flash tuned ECU is not practical for most DSM'ers. With your purchase of ECM link you also get access to their tuning forum, which with the very knowledgable people on there takes a ton of the guesswork out of things.

The other upside with ECM link is you KNOW whats done for the tune. No guessing games as to if something in the tune is causing the car to run funky. ECM link also gives you the potential to read engine related trouble codes.

I really like my DSM link. They're made specifically for our car and it is very easy to use.

There are a few link users in the Detroit area, if you end up with ECM link. Posting logs on the forum is easy and there are lots of Link users who can and will tune for cash.

Not for the 2G ECU. You need to find a '95 EPROM ECU if you want to use DSMLink.

Dude, just buy an E-prom if you dont already have one and buy link. You will never go back! There are a ton of people that will help you on this site. If you do get link and want some help, pm me and I would gladly help ya out.
