Hey guys, I haven't been on here in awhile (forgot my account info so I'm starting fresh). I've been looking into getting back into DSM's after my first eclipse left a bad taste. 12 months of a slow N/A 98 auto has made me crave a gsx ever since I sold it. I'm decently versed in the things to look for in a 2g eclipse and cars in general (going to school for auto engineering) but I know I have a ton more to learn and I'd like a little advice from the pro's around here. The car I'm looking at is a few hours away from me so I don't want to go up there and be disappointed.

1995 Eclipse GSX

Here is the link to it, I've been chatting with the owner through a few short emails and this is what I've concluded:

1. He hasn't owned the car very long. The previous owner did the 6 bolt swap (no paperwork :banghead:) and he said there is roughly 1,000 miles on the swap.

2. He states that there is a 14b turbo on it which, correct me if I'm wrong, is not stock for any of the eclipses.

3. Again correct me if I'm wrong, but #2 would entail that there is some form of aftermarket engine management DSMlink or some standalone. He doesn't know what it's running though, which scares me a little. He seems knowledgable enough though.

Any opinions would be helpful. I planned on offering $4500 if it checks out visually and after a test drive.

Thanks guys!

The 14b turbo came stock on 1g manual cars. So that is stock to a DSM. Which if it is a a 1g swap that makes sense for it to have a 14b.

Not a bad car, the 14b was stock on 1g eclipses but a modification on the 2g eclipse (since we had the T25). The 14b is better, but will not need a tuning system unless the injectors are changed and the boost is turned up.

Looks like a nice deal, interior looks very clean

Not bad. If that's what you are looking for than I'd go take a look at it. That car is 10x better off than mine when I bought it.

Ahh, alright. So it's like a clean slate 1G with a 2g body? I thought the t25 was in all eclipses. This is why I came on here! :) Thanks guys

Are you sure it wasn't originally an RS? The pics make is seem like the rear has brake drums, and the picture doesn't have the proper angle to show if the stock boost gauge is on it.

I didn't notice that. Now that you mention it you might be right but looking at the cluster very closely you can see one white tick mark on the tach right before 7k (the gs and rs had 6.5k redlines). In the other angle it looks like a rotor in the rear wheel.

Anybody else wanna comment?

Come on now, it has a picture of the motor, it has the turbo side skirts (gray along bottom), and you can see on the gauges the edge of the fuel gauge (two small gauges together, not on non-turbo cars) Leather interior and power windows weren't an option on an rs. Also note the rear disk brakes that you seem to think are drums. Note the rims which also did not come on an RS. Too many things that aren't RS options to even suggest that.

I can't tell you it's definitely a GSX, but I can tell you it's definitely a 4G63 turbo model. It has the turbo cluster, it has the rear rotors (no clue where the drum remarks came from, out of left field) oh and the most important part would be the 4G63 engine you see in the engine bay.

I am going to call it a GSX. This picture did it for me:

Its most definitely disc brakes in the back. The reason it may look like it isn't is because of a ring of rust on the rotor. I remember having it on my 98 gs. It forms because the rear brakes pads don't use the whole rotor as a contact point so rust cam easily form on the part closest to the hub, giving a drum like illusion.

It seems like a gsx all around. When I head up there I'll just check out the diff, pretty easy to tell the two apart once you get under 'em.

when you go look at it take a buddy or two and have them look at it too. Also cause its a turbo motor and supposedly has a rebuild i would compression test it too.
