I have a 2g talon n/t. I have just had the cat removed and had a test pipe put in. I know my check engine light is on for my o2 sensors but that isn't the big problem. I was on my way home from work and all of a sudden lost all power. I downshifted the car and the motor came back on. I tried to speed up and the motor stalled again. I did a compression test because i started blowing smoke. I am loosing compression in the number 3 cyl. I checked the fuel pressure and i was only putting out 20 lbs. I decided to put in a new fuel pump seeing it should be around 38 psi. I installed the new pump and now i only get 24 lbs. If i undo the vaccum line i get 30 psi. What is the problem. It keeps stalling? Please HELP.

A couple of thoughts here. What shape is your fuel filter in has it ever been changed? If your fuel filter is plugged it will reduce fuel pressure. Your compression could be a valve problem. Lastly have you red what cel codes you have? Maybe it's not your lack of a cat. I know someone w/ a 96 nt and no cat and they have no cel for it.

thanks for the thought. the fuel filter was changed not even 4k miles ago. I don't have any idea what cel codes are? Sorry. When i did the compression check i had 4 codes. 2 for the ignition and 2 for the front and rear o2 sensors. some people are telling me its the ecm. I had a 95 a couple of years back and when my ecu went out i couldn't drive it. I can start it and it idles fine. When i get on it and get up to around 30mph is when it shuts off. Just dont know where to look. I went to a junk yard a pulled a ecu but it was the wrong one. It has the two connectors and mine ecu bolts in.

c.e.l stands for "check engine light"

as far as your fuel goes i don't know much about the n/t's but maybe your stock fpr "fuel pressure regulator" is shot.

checked the pressure regulator when doing the fuel pressure test. if it was bad i wouldn't have gotten a jump of 10 lbs when i took the vacuum line off. im just so confused. thanks for the c.e.l. thing though.

I would first deal with the 2 ignition codes and the front o2 sensor code. I think these would go a long way to determine your run ability issues. Then you can see if there is any difference in how it runs. The rear o2 only tells if the cat is working properly and does not effect how the car runs. As far as the ecu goes i've read there were problems with the 95 ecu's and yes 95's had 1 plug were as 96 up has 2 plugs.

the ignition codes i had fixed themselves after i cleared the codes. It was because i was doing a compression test and didn't have my coil plugged in. As for the o2 codes i already have both new o2s in. I put them in the same day that it stalled on me coming home.

no i haven't i dont know how to tell if it is valve related or rings. I am burning oil pretty bad. compression across the board is 160-168 on 1,2,4 and on 3 its 135. Mt check engine light also flashs after i leave the key on it flashs 122155 then goes out. what does that mean.

If you turn the engine over by hand can you hear air leaking out the tail pipe or intake? Thie will take 2 people to do. This would suggest valve issues. If you hear air leaking inside engine this would be rings. Your oil consumptiion seems like rings. I assume you are accessing trouble codes by the on off, on off, on method done within 5 seconds. I also assume the codes are 12, 21 and 55. The only code that I can tell is 21 which is upstream o2 sensor signal circuit. Sensorvoltage to computer not fluctuating. The other 2 are not in my book. Try Auto Zone to or your own hand scanner to get the P#### number. It will be more helpful.

thanks for the help, i have already cleared the codes. i did some research online with the codes. but im coming up with 12 meaning air flow sensor, 21 meaning coolant temp sensor, and 55 meaning idle air contol valve. but would any of those be causing it to stall??

the leak is in the rings. i've been burning oil for weeks. then i had my cat taken out for the test pipe and drove it for 5 days like that. Then all of a sudden it stalls. I thought maybe it was because of nox but i don't know. I got it off the highway at nighttime when it was colder. Does that help any, because it was colder it ran?
