You may have maybe about an hour hour and a half to drive the vehicle...the battery will drain QUICK. Make sure you turn off everything electronic in the car. If you are doing this and have a long trip I don't recommend it.
 
No. Your alternator belt also drives the water pump so unless you feel like overheating the car and having to replace the head gasket or even more don't do it. You will aldo lose power steering since that belt runs off the back water pump pulley. However if you need to move it a few feet it should be ok to start and move and then shut it right off. Without the alt your battery will last no where near a few hours, try a few seconds. Mine's come off before and the car makes it about 50 yards before the motor wants to die.
