calgary,
hey guy my water pump is leaking pretty bad when i start my car and thats a sign saying i need a new one, i was just wondering how hard is it to remove the old water pump and install a new one, my dad says he has done many water pumps before but you know how dsm motors are everything is cramed together. I would just like to know if its easier just to pay a shop to do it, thanks...:talon:

It will be easier to pay a shop to do it obviously. With minor mechanical knowledge your dad should be able to do it. It's not as hard as it is made out to be. Just make sure to change the timing belt while it is off. Here is a link to what you are looking at to replace it. I had got it down to replacing a timing belt and tensioners in just over an hour. Not hard but just take it slow and make sure it's all lined up.

Let me put it this way. There's two reasons we know God hates DSM's and their owners:

1. Exhaust bolts and nuts

2. Water pump pulley

Haha, just kidding. It's not hard, it just takes a long time to get it right. Taking it off is a sinch, it's just putting the pulley back on that's hard. But like I said, it isn't hard. It just takes patience, which I have a severe lack of. I just start yelling and throwing wrenches. If you encounter any difficulties, you can always post up on here. We are more than willing to help you out. Plus, you can save a lot of money for the labor you didn't have to pay for.

Taking it slow and doing it right is never a bad thing. Plus, you'll gain some crucial knowledge about your car! You'll be fine.

BTW, Adam, you forgot to post the link LOL. Here it is, TalonEH: Stuff you need for the job
