took my car to pep boys to get it checked out and came back with this report.
Runs rough. Blue smoke coming from exhaust. no stored codes. spark plugs severely carbon tracked. low compression. excessive oil blowby. recommend new engine. i called kar king in ontario and they gave me a quote for 1300 new engine plus 500 for installation. :notgood: so im wondering if i should just sell it or pay for the new engine

its 350 for a engine from the junk yard then another 500 in a rebuild kit (you can find cheaper if you want) and another 150 for the engine to be cleaned and honed and you have a nice rebuilt engine for way cheaper and you learn about the car and the engine. Thats basically what I did but I spent more because I went all out.

not sure what other shop you went to in MoVal but id say go to yet another shop and watch them do a compression test ( or buy yourself a tester)and see the #'s for yourself, Honestly 2200 for a full rebuild at a shop isint a bad price you have to understand they gotta make money 2.

And a used engine isint really worth while either I have the same car and am weighing my options on what to do with it as well rebuild or used or rebuild with forged internals, So far the forged internals seams to be the ticket for me. BUT i am a technician and will do al the labor myself and i get a good price on the parts.

From what i have seen you can get a rebuilt motor for about 1300 and used are about 800-1100 and to save a few hundred bucks just dont make since, i did find one for 525 but it had 205k on it so it would need a rebuild as well. I work in a shop in Riverside all we do is High Performance stuff if you want i could try and help you out a little

If ## car is 5spd check your clutch saftyswitch they ten to go out on the nt 2gs. Its behind ## clutch pedal.

Hi everyone. So I own a 1996 eagle talon tsi awd turbo and I got the worst news 2 days before Christmas. I was told that there are a lot of problems with my car. Basically I was that the cost to repair it wouldn't be much less than if I got a new engine. So I have a stock 4g63 with 110k on it. I would love to have help finding a new one for a good deal with little or no miles on. I prefer a stock. Engine since I plan on building the top end so cam gears, camshafts, valves, springs, retainers and headstuds will be installed. Please help me ASAP on good websites. also could I do a 6 bolt swap instead and is my engine considered a 4g63t? If not what is the difference?

Ok if you say you can jump the solonoid aka bypass it, that means the "switch wire" from the ingniton to the starter is messed up somewhere between the 2. you bypassing it with the wrench or whatever just means you bypassed the ignition swith to the starter.

apparently somewhere along the weekend my nuetral safety switch got unplugged:/ then i started smoking so bad that im sitting at a stoplight in a cloud of smoke:notgood: so i took it to a shop and they said my seals were completely busted so im getting a new engine put in there for 1200:banghead:. dropped my car off today and it wont be ready til the 1st. so im without my eclipse til monday:cry:

which seal? the valve seals? in that case just get the head fixed... or was it head gasket, and the white smoke could just be antifreeze... or is it your piston rings? maybe you dont need a whole new engine, it may just need fixed. you could save 1000$ if you wrench.

i just bought a brand new 6 bolt for my 96 talon. along with a new clutch and trans. all my hoses were replaced and anything else that needed work. i would highly recommend a good build for a reliable dsm. start by having everything running right
