Need new downpipe or maybe just flexpipe?

To pass the safety inspection my mechanic told me that I'll need to replace the downpipe, and that he could order me one in but it would be $200 without labour, and it would be a stock pipe. I'm really on a budget now after all these Talon repairs and I was wondering what the cheapest way to do this is. It's only the flexpipe section which is corroded, maybe I can just replace the flexpipe? Or is it a better idea to try to find one at the scrap yard/ebay etc?

Sounds like your mechanic is trying to make a buck off you. If he told you the reason you wouldnt pass the safety inspection was because of a corroded flexpipe and nothing else is corroded then just replace that, but I see this as an opportunity to upgrade. I know you said you want cheap but just a thought.
