Need Help!

Okay, so I have a 1994 Eagle Talon, 1.8L non turbo automatic. I was driving home from work a couple nights ago, car was perfectly fine, running the same as usual. I noticed the check engine light came on twice on the way home but was only for a few seconds and then it went away. I stopped for gas and then i was on my way to the other gas station to get oil for my car, I was at the intersection, light turns green, i start to go, but at this point my friend who was with me shifted in her seat and her elbow knocked it in to neutral, so the car stopped and only started revving, it took me a moment to realize what happened and so i put it back into drive, i tap the gas and still only revving and not moving. I ended up having to have it towed home. I cant figure out whats wrong with it, it wont move at all, and it wont shift into gear, i go from park all the way down and its like it wont engage into any of the gears, it doesn't do anything at all, its almost like its stuck in neutral or something since it will only rev but not move. I have tried reversing it but it wont drive that way either. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I LOVE my car and I just want to fix it so i can start driving it again.

Is the shifter linkage at the transmission still attached and working? Kinda Sounds like the nut could have came off the linkage causing your gear "shifter" to not switch gears inside the tranny.

That'd be my guess to...but if they were at a light, wouldn't the car be in the Drive position? Question is, can the car roll while in Drive? maybe its stuck in the Neutral position when he/she tried to shift it around? Odd though but in reverse or any gear, the car wouldn't roll correct? I could be wrong...
