Hey everyone,
Today I bought a new Battery for my car and while installing it I was able to look at my passenger side motor mount insert and it was very very thin, practically nothing left :notgood: Luckily for me I have a set of Prothane motor mounts (sides).

I was thinking of having a shop to install the mounts but if is not too hard, I wouldn't mind tackling this myself. Is there some sort of write up on how to take out the stock mounts? any links of anyone that done this on their own DSM cars? If is not too much trouble does anyone have pics and write up on how to tackle this?

So far I know driver side is visible and looks simple and the passenger side I need to take out the battery again to get a good look on what I'm doing...I see bolts but I don't want to unscrew them because I'm not sure what will happen. Would you suggest to let a shop handle this?
Thanks

i recommend getting drunk before doing this..as it will help ease the pain. probably the biggest pain in the ass mod i've dont to date. ahh the memories of setting my stock mounts on fire and throwing them in the snow to put them out in 35degree weather. make sure the engine is braced properly and obviously remove the mounts 1 by 1. i used a wide piece of wood placed under the oil pan with a jack to hold to motor. just keep thinking to yourself while doing it (wheel hop will be gone, wheel hop will be gone) and you'll be just fine. good luck

To learn from his mistake, the proper way to do this is to take a torch to the actual mount itself -- not the bushing. When it gets hot enough, it will expand and the bushing will fall out. Then all you need to do is dremel out the metal ring inside and put the new one in.

Tip: Easiest way I've found to get them in is to lay it down, push the insert in is far as you can by hand, then hit that sumbitch with a sledgehammer. Slides right in.

Lacking a sledgehammer, a rubber mallet works wonders too. The tranny-side replacement goes in fairly easy, the timing-side is a pain.

Oh, and make sure if you use a torch that it isn't an oxy-acetylene. It'll cut the whole thing open. Although after you get to a certain point of frustration while doing this mod, you'll contemplate that as an alternative.

I used an Air Chisel. Works very well.
1st pop out the middle rubber with the chisel.
2nd cut the ring out with the chisel.

Took me about 1 hour to do the 2 big mounts and front small mount. Thats taken them off and on the car to.

Front small mount? Mine was an insert, do you have a complete replacement?

I didnt think mine were hard at all, the back mount is very easy if you have some ratcheting wrenches. once the mount is out I would drill a bunch off holes through the majority of the rubber then dremel out the ring, I used a saw-zaw on one too, both worked well. Once I made a complete cut through the ring I pryed it out with a screw driver.

I made my own, made them from solid Urethane. Check out my pics.

I've done about 10 sets of these. They are not hard if you have the right tools. I've never used a torch or an air chisel, or anything like that, i just press the old rubber mount and steel ring out and put the new poly mounts in.

I just installed my prothane motor mounts. They are not bad at all to install. I took the method from plymouthlaser.com and simplified it. I didn't need a torch. All you need is a dremel, vice, a sledge hammer, flathead, and a big sharp knife (I used a 12 inch knife). Here's how I did it. First you get the mount and tighten it down on the vice. Take the knife and angle it down the rubber. You are going to cut the middle rubber part out. So you stick the knife in and take the sledge hammer and hammer it down. It's a little dangerous you just have to be careful not to hurt yourself. Cut it until the middle part is cut all around so you can just knock it out. Now the mount will look like a donut. Now take the dremel, I used a carbide strong porting bit, start from the inside and dremel towards the metal ring that holds the entire mount. First you'll hit the rubber. It'll stink but the dremel should cut through very quickly. Then the metal ring. After you hit the real mount it will be harder to cut. Stop and take a flathead or the knife you used and knock the ring out. It should slide out very easily. Repeat for all mounts needed. It took me about an hour or less to do all of them with the mounts in hand.

what is the torque spec for these circle bolts/nuts

I just took my engine mounts that needed to be removed up to the machine shop and let them press them out for like $15 (for both) while I worked on other things.
