Hey everyone,

have had this problem for some time now and i really need to get this figured out.

Showing a full short on the battery. When i unplug my ECU and the 80AMP alternator fuse, the short goes away.

With the alternator fuse plugged in but with the other 4 fuses unplugged the short also goes away. These fuses are 10AMP seat belt/pop up lights, 15AMP STOP, 10AMP ROOM and the 30AMP H LAMP/Volet Phare fuse in the engine bay.

Now, with the 80AMP alternator fuse unplugged and all the other fuses plugged in (no short). If i start plugging in the smallest connector to the ECU, a full short returns. If i plug in the middle ECU connector a partial short occurs.

I already tried looking over all the wires and unplugging as many things as i possible can think of. Even tried using a short cirucuit detector without much luck. Strangely enough i don't seem to be blowing any fuses!

I'm no electronic buff unfortunately, could someone advice me on the best way to test each individual wire going into the ECU plugs?

Also, could anyone provide me with the 80AMP alternator fuse wiring diagram, please?

As always, any suggestions and feedback is highly appreciated.

Please describe how you've came to the conclusion that they're shorted. Like is there a parasitic draw, or something specifically inoperative?

As for the digrams, visit Scribd and search for "90-91el" & "90-91 ecb"

I've heard of a few people here coming to find the alternator had a internal fault on their 1G's,maybe investigate that.

Sniver, thanks for the feedback!

I know that there is a short somewhere because i have had a draw on the battery when plugged in for some time. So i usually ended up unplugging it when not using the car, then one day i left it plugged in for a few days. Worked on my OFH, tried to start the car to check the new oil pressure and that is when weird things started happening.

First the dashboard would light up but would dimm out on any attempt to start the car. Of course, it wouldn't even bather to crank. Then started hearing weird clicking sounds from the passanger side quarter panel and mpi relay. Then the sounds dissapeared.

When i check the voltage between the negative terminal post on the battery and the negative wire, it comes up with the voltage of the battery. Hence i know the short is there, just not blowing any fuses.

Yeah, i've been also suspecting the alternator. But then again, the short returns when i start plugging in the ECU with the alternator unplugged. So i might have more than one issue. :|

I"ll check out the link you provided. Thanks for that.

If anyone could also suggest on how to check the ECU wires and any other suggestions, that would be very helpfull.
