Need help with 97 gsx

I was driving kind of fast shiftin around 5000 rpms and it started smelling like something is burning... My rpms dont go up as fast in 2nd and 3rd gear. They pass 3000 very slow. It happened tonight and Im kind of freaking out because i can tell ive lost power. What do you think happened? What could I have burned out... There is no smoke... Just a smell around the engine block? Do you think i toasted a spark plug or maybe messed up my Bov... anyone had that problem before? Please respond...Do you think I burned clutch badly could that be it?

Hmmm.... do a boost leak to make sure your compression is still alright. Also, take off your intake and check the turbo for shaft play. It should not be able to move more than 1/8" side to side and none up and down. Lets not rule out your turbo starting to die, especially if it is old and has a lot of miles on it. A boost leak tester will also be one of your best friends along with a pocketlogger to seeing if anything is out of whack. If its burning, check to make sure the oil feed line to the turbo isn't clogged or pinched. If your turbo hasn't been getting oil, it could of burned out, thus smelled bad.

Do you hear the turbo spool up at all? Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? The stock one isn't accurate at all as it measures air flow vs rpm instead of actual boost. Does the car sputter at all or is it just really slow? Is your car still bone stock? Same Garrett T25 turbo?

Very interesting, my car tends to smell like burning when I drive and then when I stop driving sometimes ..I will pop the hood and the smell will be significant, somewhere around the tranny I believe, so I imagine I could be burning my clutch...Supposedly my car has a pretty nice clutch installed in it, so I am hoping it isn't burned out completely ...My burning smell started though when I drove the car w/ the E-brake up
