I have been in need of a daily driver for the last couple weeks, BAD. I want a dsm because i'm comfortable with them. The problem is finding one in good condition for relatively cheap. I finally found one but I dont know if I should jump on it or not. I've already seen the car in person and driven it.

Here's the specs...PLEASE help...

Its a 1995 Eclipse GS (manual)
Has 110,000 miles on the clock
Original motor, no problems whatsoever
Runs GREAT and is SPOTLESS. For a car thats 15 years old the body is almost perfect, only a couple minimal dents and scratches. (normal wear and tear)
He is the original owner, bought it new off the lot in '95. Has the paperwork to prove it. He's also elderly so I know it hasn't been rallied.

I realize it only has the 420a engine, but i have no intention of modding this car, its purely for commuting purposes. Something to get me from point A to point B. So I don't care about the horsepower or the fact its not a 4G63T.

That said, he wants $3000 and he's not budging. Thats as low as he'll go.

So...Do i get it or no? Is it worth the money or not?

Thank you for your help, Tyson.

They're reliable. If you have the money to drop on it and it's as clean as you say, then why hesitate?

Cause 3k seems a little steep when I might be able to find a GST for that or close to it. Granted the GST probably wouldn't be in that good of condition if it was going for $3000-$4000?

Not true. It's possible to find a good running GST and even a GSX for that price.

In a DSM stand point, hold out and see what you can find.

In a Vehicle standpoint - Is 3K really too much for a reliable car that you'll enjoy?

Agreed. Keep looking out there, wait till you find a deal that you cant turn down:thumb:. And please dont double post a thread:banghead:

Something else I need to take into consideration is its local. If I find a nice GST or GSX what are the odds of it being local? Cause the cost of transportation/gas might take it higher than I can afford. $4000 is the absolute most I can afford, not including tax, title, and licensing.

Sorry about the double post...

I should probably clarify...I DONT want a 1g. So when you guys say I could pick up a nice GST or GSX for that price, are you thinking a 1g?

Well what is more important to you, the way the car looks visually or how fun it is to drive? You could easily find a 2g with a 4G63T for that money that is mechanically sound, but it may take some time. I also think you could find a better deal on a 420a car then that. The thing with buying a turbo DSM for that price is you'll probably be sacrificing something. It may have low mileage and be taken care of mechanically, but the paint may be faded, the interior beat up, etc. That or it may be taken care of all around, but have 150k+ on the clock. I would say you just have to sacrifice something to find a turbo 2g for that money (if you're in a hurry anyway). If you purely want a car that looks as close to new as possible then 3k might not be too much, but there are definitely better deals out there (albeit, maybe not as visually appealing).

honestly if all i was gonna do is use it as my DD, then i would ###### pay the price, because if you dont have the intentions of having fun in it then why buy one that your gonna have the urge to throw money into :)

My friend picked up a 5sp loaded gs with sunroof and tan leather 97 model for $1200 I can't tell you they are reliable because it is an oil burner. A really bad oil burner, smells like a 2 stroke.

He also bought a gst with leather for $2000.

Honestly, do whatever you think is best, but I would buy the GS. That way you won't be tempted to screw around with your DD and end up like me with two "daily drivers" in the garage with motors out of them. Granted, only one is a DSM, and that was because it was beat badly before I got it (as I found out too late).

Still, just buy something you are comfortable with. Plus, any 2g turbo you buy for 3k is going to need work. The turbo cars are just more pricey to work on and maintain.
