Ok i have a 96 spyder gst. I just bought it. so i noticed my headlamp lights did not turn on, wich are right under my rearview mirror. replaced the fuse and everything and they turned on. but once i actually turned on the car the few blew out. i checked the lights and theyre fine put i tried to replace the fuse like 6 times and it burns out right when i put it in and i am ussing the right fuse. is there anyway anyone can help me with this. im thinking it could be a short inside the headlamp but not sure. i was also wondering if anyone can show me how to unistall the headlamp properly i cant seen to unplug the back cables. picutures would be great. or how can i check for a short. ok thank u i appreciate any imput.

The best way to take out the headlights for a full inspection is to remove the front bumper. It seems daunting at first, but if you stick with DSMs, you'll become a pro at taking them on an off in no time.

This thread will tell you how to take the bumper off(pay no attention to the "97-99" title, it's the same for your car too):

Once it's off, you'll clearly be able to see three bolts that hold the headlight in. From there, you'll have all the access you need to clearly inspect the wiring and the headlights for electrical problems.

Ohh im sorry what i meant was the room lamp the lights that turn on when you open your doors. if you can help me with thath please they are located under the rearview mirror which i think is only in spyders.

Oh... the dome lights. Try replacing the bulbs and see if that does anything. If not, you may need to remove some of the paneling to find where the wire originates and if there's any shorts. I think it the unit is grounded to the chassis, so you'll only be looking along one wire - the 12V power.

tried the lights so i guess only option is to try the panneling so ill let u know how it goes tommorow when i try it thanks alot. i really appreciate it.

No problem, let us know how it goes.

Electronics 101

First you need to verify the problem which you did.
Next you need to isolate the problem. Don't just go tearing apart the car have a plan first.
Get ahold of the wiring diagram for your car. Find the circuit or circuits you need to test. Get a DMM and go to town. Or a basic voltmeter will work.
Does the fuse blow even if you have the doors all closed? Does it blow if you take the bulbs out? You need to start trying and isolate the prolem.
Also get a wire the same gage as the circuit is built out of and get a circuit breaker with a breaker rated at the same amp. So you don't blow 100 more fuses trying to find the problem. Start at the source and work you way to the problem Start at the fues box and work your way down the wire. Use a jumper wire if you have to just make sure it's fused with a breaker, and never jump loads. Switchs are ok, but loads you never want to jump.
If you can't find a wireing diagram by tomarrow I will try and find one and we can go over it together. I just took electronics so this should be fun.

ok. i think i narrowed it down. ok i put in a new fuse and everything related to the dome light fuse worked perfect. but then i opened the top (convertible) and once it was all the way rolled down right when it rolls down behind the seats, the fuse blows out. anyso then it only blows out when the top is all the way down. do u have any dea ### it can b?

I took a quick look at the circuit diagrams for the Spyder's convertible top and dome light circuits. No link between the two was very apparent. Here's the diagrams in case you want to look a little better.

Sorry that they're so small - if you click on the thumbnail and expand each to it's full size, you'll be able to see them better.
