So i let my dad tighten the center nut on the cv axle and i think he over tightened it. Now when the car is jacked up you can grab the tire and move it forward and backwardWTF. Is there a way to fix this. I allready tried to tighten it more and it didn't help.

Are the nuts on the ball joint tight.

And i have never seen or heard of anyone over tightening the nut on a cv joint. I think that's pretty much impossible unless you use a 1" drive impact.

You could have a loose ball joint, play in the wheel bearing (common), or a loose tie rod end. Check all those. There is a proper torque spec for the axle castle nut. Find it and use it.

but mine were like this before i think in the front and all we did to fix it was put new knuckles on and it fixed it, there wasn't any more play. So what could have happened inside the knuckle?

Well there's this:
I actually saw him do it. He was tightening the nut with a big ass bar on the wratchet and right when he when to turn it it looking liked it got loose againg.
Are you saying that someone tightened it with a huge bar until something snapped, and it was loose again? The splined end of the C/V joint goes through the knuckle. The wheel bearing is inside the knuckle to.

Are you saying you changed the knuckle only? Meaning you pressed the bearing out of the old knuckle, and pressed it into the replacement knuckle and everything was fine? That doesn't really make much sense. Can you put your mechanic on here? Then maybe we can get to the bottom of this.

Ha Ha my MechanicWTF Dude ok it does make sense im telling you that it must be something inside the knuckle not the c/v because when i first got the car i had this problem and replaced both front knuckles and the play was gone. I just wanted to know if someone knew what happened when i let my dad tighten it.
