NEED Help Please - running rich and dies when let off accelerator

91 talon tsi fwd. it is having some issues currently. it runs rich and smokes and runs out of gas pretty quick as well as dies when i let off the gas right after pushing it over half throttle. and also the idle starts off high like 1300rpm , warms up and drops to 900rpm then slowly creeps up to 1500. and idle screw has been adjusted and it should be idling at 400rpm based on how its set.

You have to ground the 3rd up on the right side of pins in the OBD port. There is a plug under the hood by the battery with a cap on it. Its a single wire by its self. That needs to be grounded as well.

Start the car and let it warm up to operating temp. Set the biss with light movements. Never over tighten the biss screw as you can damage the TB. Get it to the desired RPM's and blip the throttle to insure that its an accurate reading. Once the desired RPM's are reached shut the engine off and unplug the 2 ground wires you put on the terminals.

Start the car and blip the throttle. Blip the throttle to insure that the RPM's have not changed from the amount you had set it at.

No electrical devices should be being used while your setting the RPM's of your car as they put strain on the system and your readings will be off and, make sure that you have no boost leaks as that will affect your idle as well.


If that don't work test our ICS from a dead pack. ICS have a bad tendency to go out and cause funny idle problems.

Are you running a stock MAF and venting the BOV into the atmosphere? This can cause many stalling problems along with running rich at some points.
