OK, I was driving car, everything OK, stopped at a friends house (driveway on slight upward embankment) Got back in car, started it and MAJOR lifter clatter, shut car off, checked oil, down a liter, bought oil, rolled car onto street (flat) started again and MAJOR top end clatter. What is going on..PLEASE HELP!!!

started it 3 times, sounded like hell each time. But why would it just go after sitting like that? It sat for 1 hour...Lifter stuck???

not sure why it would just be fine then not. you sure you didn't have any lifter tick before that? it stalling out kind a has me stumped. sounds like something up in the head is gone to crap.

Rebleed the lifters doesn't take long. i had a problem but i let it run and tehy rebled themselves but it was sitting in storage for a while. but its fine now. vfaq.com shows how to re bleed them.

do you think that the cold (sitting over night) will loosen them up? ((Heat expansion)) It did have lifter tick pretty bad before this but Iam still pretty weary why this has happened. Please tell me your opinions!!

Too many possibilities to accurately diagnose.

Hook up an aftermarket gauge and see how much oil pressure you are getting. That should tell you where to start.

Lifters will/should rebleed themselves in about 10 hours' time left sitting with cams in place. It's a choice between either bleeding the lifters or letting them sit to let them bleed themselves down when you swap the cams.

I'd take off the VC and see if you had a rocker pop loose. It can happen somewhat spontaneously if one isn't seated right. If one DID pop off, you'll want to bleed that lifter down manually, reinstall it, and use a friend and a screwdriver to get the rocker back into place.
Careful when you're putting the VC back on, the bolts are only supposed to be torqued to 36 inch-pounds... so 3ft/lb max. Barely more than finger tight, really.

Just went back out, car sat overnight and its still clattering. Took VC off and there is no visible damage or anything but all lifters do look to be in an upward state.
