Hey guys im about to check out a 1995 or 1993 i cant remember which one Talon TSI AWD. Its white 5spd 130kmi leather interior. How much should i pay for it?

I need a car soon because 1988 blazer is just too much of a gas guzzler and im selling it soon. I know that people hate answer stupid ass questions that has been answered a billion times. But i dont have time to read everything because i am about to purchase the car i just described. So i would like to ask you what are the most common things that go wrong with the car and what should i look for?

I need a reliable car so if 130k on this car is too much and its not worth buying please let me know cause i just might go find a camry or something hahah which i rather not.

So far i have read about crankwalk problems and i am really damn confused as there are too many threads about it some saying 97 is a bad year and then some saying 95-97 being prone to have crankwalk.
Do the turbos have problems with 130k miles? Any leaks that are common? Sorry for all the questions. I think right now im hoping for it to be a 93 which i think is a 1g? and a 95 being a 2g because of the crankwalk problem.

a 93 will have a 7 bolt also if the car was never given a 6 bolt swap.

If you need a reliable car don't buy a dsm. haha And to tell you the truth if you don't know much about the car I wouldn't buy it. 7 bolt motors aren't as great a 6 bolts. You should just find yourself a cheap one and build it yourself.

well it wouldn't be a bad fine....just make sure you didn't make a mistake like I did......Get a compression test on the motor .....Ask about the proper maintenance, Last time they had the belts changed etc

Unless you see signs of crankwalk I wouldn't worry about it. I think the concensus is that the problem is blown out of proportion and not particularly common.

I'd look for the usual things. Check for leaks, compression, noises, boost, maintenance history, etc... If it looks good buy it. If not, don't. Every type of car has it's quirks, but neglect is a more common cause of problems IMHO.

As for price, check what other people are selling them for. Prices vary by area and condition. I can tell you I paid $2000 for my 91 TSI AWD w/ 116,000. It needed a little bit of work. I don't think I would pay more than $4,000 for any 1st gen, but that's up to you.

I payed 4,000 for my 95 tsi awd 5 spd. 88,000 miles. I've been told by a lot of dsm owners that I was fortunite to get it at that price, so I'm thinkin try not to spend over 5. what is the asking price on the 93?

Yea ive checked kbb. But you know how things go somethings like civic are overpriced ie civic hatchbacks, mr2 turbos.

Thanks alot guys. His car is at the shop so it shouldnt be to hard to get a compression test done. If there's anymore information or things i should know just keep it coming. I appreciate the help. If i do get the car im gonna be a forum whore here. .
