the speakers located on the front of my dash are blown...anyone know what size they are?

im thinking of buying some jl audio 3 way components and trying to mount the 4 inch mid driver up there if its possible

im not sure what the exact size is on our dash speakers. but i doubt 4" speakers are fitting up there unless you feel like chopping up your dash. ive seen a lot of people, myself included, simply drop a tweeter in there.

No one really makes a direct drop in speaker. I think it's 2 3/8 or something stupid like that. You best option is to drop in a tweeter as shown (with a bass blocker) or custom make some door mouldings... look it up on here.

i havent got around to removing my dash yet..probably tommorow...but what is up there that would keep you from building a custom enclosure to put a 4 inch mid driver up there? in the f-bodies, that was right where all the wiper blade gearing was at...but what is up there on a dsm? if its just sheet metal and some wires i dotn see what the problem would be cutting the hole big enough to fit whatever speaker you wanted to add

I know what you are talking about with the F-body.... I have a Formula. That sort of thing isn't possible with a DSM. That speaker barely fits in there as is. Your best bet is to make the panel that covers the side view mirror a tweeter and upgrade the door speaker. You can mount the crossover in the door also have have a really good sounding car.

Nooooo... I wouldn't Even mess with a set of 3 way components if you don't know how to install them right. Install the 6.5's in the doors. Install the 4's in your kickpanels (deaded the backside of the kick, cut a hole for the 4", and mount it on the kickpanel). Place your tweeters about 6 inches up on the A pillars, only install them facing each other.

Just cause ya have good gear doesn't mean it will sound good. You gotta install it right to do that. :thumb:

cool, i will take your advice on this issue...i know its very easy to get a set of compnents out of phase and having a 500 dollar set of speakers that sound like ass....im going to look over my options tommorow and make the call if i want to go with the 3 ways or jsut get a set of 2 ways...its down to either the jbl's or the fasgate fanatik q's...i wil post some pics of what i end up doing
