whats up gurus, i have a question that i need some help with....i'm looking to get a FMIC, now heres the thing, i was reading on the hahnracecraft website something that made alot of sense, towards teh bottom of the page they explaing the disadvantage of having a crossover pipe (like the one provided by the greddy FMIC), blocking some of the air that would normally float above the IC and into the radiator......i wasn't neccesrly thinking about purchising a FMIC from hahn, but i was wondering if any of u guys use the crossover pipe and/or use/used another sort of IC to see which you guys would advise me with.....another thing i would like to avoid is any sort of modification to the front bumper as i have heard that in some IC (like the hahn) it is required....so i need some advice from u guys.....what do u guys recommend???

98 gs-t, big 16g, intake, 3" turbo back exhaust, mbc, bov, dsmlink...

with any front mount you are going to have to remove your reinforcement bar. the cutting is not that big of a deal you dont even notice it if you do it clean. since you have a 98 i know that with the small greddy front mount there will be almost no cutting at all. i have the big front mount and had to do a bit of cutting. just my opinion, id actaully reccomend a smaller ic like the greddy small fmic or the apex, they will definitely get the job done, and you will have less pressure drop. the big greddy is not only huge, but has overly long piping and after i installed my car actually felt a litle slower because my spool up took a little longer.

I was just looking for some fmic piping an came across this website. www.extremeintercoolers.com They stated they have a street kit for both 1g and 2g that you don't have to cut your core support. Might wanna check it out,you can get a complete kit for $725

thanks alot for the replies guys.....so maybe i should stick with a greddy FMIC.....thanks for the link, i'm going to go ahead and check it out now, but as far as the cutting are there any links/ posts about that being that it would be my first cutting job?? do i need any special tools?

i just checked it out, seems very convinent and simple....i will call them on monday to gather more info.....thanks for the link

for cutting the bumper a simple dremel is fine. the instructions that came with the greddy fmic actually showed exactly where to cut your bumper to make it fit but once you start just match up the bumper on the car and see where it is touching the ic, remove bumper, shave more off and repeat.

whats up guys, i was refered to this FMIC from another guy in this site ....this intercooler seems really convinient becuase of the fact that theres no cutting of the bumper support required, the only cutting would be some nose hair trimming to fit the pipes.....i was wondering if you guys knew or heard anything about these intercoolers??? there a remotly new company (about 1 1/2 is what the guy there told me) so i dont really know to much about them....when i spoke to the rep, he said that he hasn't heard of any reports of overheating or any other problems and that its a perfect fit even with the bumper support in tact.....if you guys know any info on these please let me know thanks.....

p.s sorry for double posting....i would just like to get as much feedback on this as i possibly can....

JR's a great guy that makes a great product also his customer service is top notch. I run his 10" tall kit on my car and love it.

Also I just noticed if you look under the 10.5" kit there is a picture of it on my car the the bottom right :thumb:

that looks like a nice kit. how do you like it? would it be good enough for a 50 trim? also, about the power steering cooler... is it possible to retain that or what? how was the install?

You shouldn't have to remove the PS cooler line. You just may have to reroute it behind the center brace where it bolts onto instead of in front of it like stock.

that makes sense... but this is from the website and im not sure what it means...

the power steering cooler must be removed and looped back into itself

just thought id ask some questions that might be relevant to the topic. i dont mean to jack the thread...

1. how much cutting do you need to do with the 10 inch kit? its only 3 inches bigger than the kit the original poster mentioned, so how much cutting can there be?
2. do they flange the ic pipes for whatever bov you have?
3. how good are the couplers?
4. can you get the ic pipes in any color besides black?

thanks.

i messaged the guy last night, and asked him if the 95-96 guys would be able to keep the fogs, hasn't messaged back yet, but they have a 95-96 style eclipse with the 7" kit that looks like enough room for it, i'm looking for one that i can keep the fogs, and the power steering thing kinda worries me, if i were to do any auto-x i don't want my ps fluid overheating.....

If you're concerned about it, install an aftermarket cooler in the driver's side fender well. I was gonna do this, and even bought the cooler, but ended up just relocating the stocker:

PS-- If you decide to do this, I still have the PS cooler I bought-- still brand new. PM if you're interested.

torquefreaks suggested these intercooler for me, said they are great quality and performance.

i will be getting one in a coupel weeks i ll let you know

The say it flows 650CFM and a 50trim can flow 715CFM but they also say it will handle a 50 trim under 24 psi. It's a close call for a 50 trim. Mark

hmm, it is a close call. maybe i should just get the 10 inch then. says it is rated at 650hp, and with intercoolers it is better to over do it by a little than not have enough...

You just have to bend the PS line behind the front brace piece, no need to eliminate it.

It comes with the good silicone couplers and T-bolt clamps. I just got rid of the whole front bumper support so the only cutting needed to be done is the bumper itself(just like all FMIC's...)

I just installed a T04E 50 trim the other day so we'll see how well it handles it, although i'm sure it will be fine.

well he just responded with this:
Hello,

Yes, our intercooler kit allows you to retain your factory foglights.

Thanks,

so it looks like its this intercooler, or the dougs dyno power one, i like the dougs one though, cause of the long route piping, pop your hood, oh, you have piping coming from the side mount location, so no fmic then (have the fmic anodized black) along with a stock looking turbo and everything else. plus its a spearco core, so its gotta be a little good. also, most know that 95-96 guys that have foglights probably don't have a fmic... cause most kits don't allow this. but it is kinda low flow rate though, cause last i knew the evo 16g flows at least 550cfm.

hey guys, I just installed the kit on sunday and can provide some very useful info on the 7" kit. As a matter of fact I just added finishing touches today!

Originally Joe took my order but I speak to JR on a more regular basis.
I opted for their bar and plate core which is an exact 7 inches tall ( hybrid is actually 7.5 ) and flows a bit more over the hybrid.

Shipment was fast enough and customer service is unbelievable. my kit came up to a little over $700. It came with instructions, nice clamps, silicone hoses and beautiful powdercoated pipes, though heavy. A true complete kit.

Installation was a breeze(They have excellent instructions that came with the kit). Only three things to keep in mind.
1. there is a beam in front of the radiator that needs to be hammered back a few cms for easier fitment.
2. relooping the PS cooler hose back into itself....I.E. no cooler.
3. locate the cooler as far back as possible to avoid bumper fitment issues.

after spending a few hours polishing it, installation took me 3 HRS tops, with the help of a friend who happens to be a specialist in the DSM feild, done at a local shop. BTW, if your bumper has never been removed before, installation might take a little longer.

Unfortuanely I had to do more trimming that suggested in the instructions due to the fact that i didnt hammer that beam far back enough and because i installed the cooler an inch too far forward.....all of those issue were resolved today. If you install the kit according to their instructions, there shouldnt be any fitment issues. AND YES I STILL HAVE MY FOG LIGHTS AND IT ENTIRELY FILLED UP THE FRONT OPENING.....i wish i had pics to show.
short route piping rules!

In terms of performance, I dont see much........still on T25 (see profile), however i can definately feel an increase in mid range power between 2500-5000rpms.

Overall, Im very pleased with my purchase. BTW when i pull over and feel my pipes, the turbo side is warm and the TB side much much much cooler........it puts a smile on my face each time i point it out to a friend. :D

JR told me this kit flows ( with my bar and plate core )enough CFM to handle anything up to a 50 trim, but never specified up to what PSI. Anything above a 50 trim might require his 10" kit.

Extreme turbo systems rule. good customer service is definately a plus.

ok, thanks alot for the advice UPGRADED2G, so the install was simple and no need to cut the bumper support right?? also have you had any overheating issues??....i think i might end up getting one of these instead of the greddy....UPGRADED2G, if you can get some pics i would really appreciate it.....thanks for all the advice guys..

I installed the race kit on my car earlier this month. The power steering line does not have to be removed. It can be routed behind the latch support for the hood. As far as cutting of the bumper support goes, you need to remove 30 inches from the bottow of your bumper support so the intercooler will fit. Triming of the bumper support took a total of 10 minutes with a saw. The piping is short routed and easy to fit around all of your stock bs. Both my fans were kept but because I have a 96 talon front bumper i had to remove the fog lights... I think it looks better without them anyways...

Here is a picture of it installed! Good luck!
