Need a new tranny, options?

Hey guys, I broke my shift fork which put a hole in the bellhousing, = dead tranny. So I need a new one and im looking to save some cash without getting a junkyard special. Tony from RRE says my only option is to get a $2100 factory transmission... Do you guys know of any other options I might have? A friend of mine mentioned trying to get a japanese motor with the transmission and just use that tranny... I have no knowledge about that stuff though. My car is sitting down at RRE now until I figure out what I want to do. $2100 is steep though for a factory tranny, so if anyone has any ideas for me I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks!

My tranny went too, I am getting it rebuilt at a DSM specific shop for around $700 which is way better than brand new but depending if you beat your tranny or not I say get it rebuilt from shep racing, his tranny is still holding out on his 8sec talon. http://www.shepracing.com/

Ah you found my old thread.... I made a new one in drivetrain. Anyways I actually talked to Shep on the phone, my tranny is dead, when you run a tranny without fluid for a long time its pretty much gone. So Shep and RRE both recommended a factory unit, and I didnt want to spend the time and money rebuilding a less reliable junkyard tranny.
