Need a new tranny for my 420A, what fits?

Ok, I think I've broken my 3rd gear syncro in my 99 RS and the rest of the tranny is gettin on its last strings anyways. I'm considering lookin for a nice used one to replace mine with and I'm wondering what trannies will work in my car? I think some of the Neons had the 420A in them also correct? Would any of the trannies in the Neons work in my car?

i'm not for sure if there trannies are the same or not. the junk yard should be able to tell. but you are right the some neons have the 420a block. but the head is different. i know the dodge advenger has the same 420A as are cars. i would say that it has the same tranny because the engine is the same even the head. also some models of the sebring has the same engine i would say the same tranny. sorry i don't know for sure if there the same but i hope this helps.

Hmmm well I wonder if my tranny will fit.. I'm aware that the top end of the blocks are different, SOHC vs DOHC. The single is completely bass ackwards because the intake is in the front and the exhaust in the rear but I'm pretty sure the shortblocks are identical. I had an extra new alternator for my eclipse from when I did a motor swap and when the alternator went out on my neon I was able to swap in the one from my old eclipse motor because they were completely identical. Everything else on the short block was the same so I was hoping that the tranny would fit also. I bought the car for only $500 as a winter beater but the tranny shifts like butter, better than any DSM tranny I've had so I figured come spring I could just take the tranny out and part out the rest of the car if it fits... Thanks for the imput though.

That particular engine comes in the Cirrus Stratus cars by Chrysler. You might see if those would work if you can them in the manual trans configuration.

if the neon is dohc it might be the same

According to salvage yards, it's not the same engine. It has to be Cirrus or Stratus

Ok, so even if the engines aren't "completely" identical... Do you think the tranny will still bolt up the same? When I compared the accessories patterns I thought they looked about the same. The belts still run completely identical and everything, I even interchanged belts on the cars. Think maybe by chance the trannies will bolt up identically?
