near stall idle when the electric fan comes on

Ok Im having some weird electrical problems and was hoping someone could tell me where to start. First off my interior lights hadnt worked since I got the car a little over a week ago. Then I just got home opened my door and the lights came on. I was confused so I shut the door waited for the lights to go off an opened the door again...... the lights came on.... ok so I get back in the car and start it and turn on the head lights and Im looking around under the hood and the radiator fan kicks on and my Idle started from from its normal steady 850-900 to below 400 and back to 900 almost stalling. But only when the fan comes on. Any Ideas?

For the interior lights, I would look at the door switch. Mine is going bad and it works when it wants to. Next time the interior lights dont work, wiggle the rubber covered pin switch on the lower rear of the door jamb to see if they come on.

As for the fan causing the low idle, check the alt. and make sure it is putting out the proper voltage at idle. If it is, the pass. fan might be going bad causing too much amp draw and pulling the altenator down with an extreme load.

-You didn't list the year of your car so I'm assumming it's a 92, you might want to also check out the Idle Control Servo, the ECU try to maintaince idle via this servo.

yeah its a 92
