Hey it was worth it to scare the mr2 :D I just put a dump on my fwd Laser and the first time I got on it my car was smoking. I later figured out though that it was a coating that was put on the pipe I used burning off. I would find a way though to make sure it's not pointed at the brace anymore! You want the heat to go out under the car not back up :p

yeah thas already fixed... i have another solution i am trying out right now... i hope it works...

LOL... in regards to AWDLATIN and some other ppl that have posted... i think you guys are thinking just the heat of the pipes melted the wires.... nawww... it was the 1600*+ exhaust gas that did it ;)

:| Um, no ofence but, from what i can tell this never should have happened in the first place. I mean they should have been covered or moved.

And something I noticed is that the tube dumps directly on the front cross member. So that all that hot air hits a wall almost making it blow out the sides ind into anything surounding it. Could be wrong, just looks like it from the pics
Also you can see where the heat has taken any of the finish off. I am sure that cross member has gotten glowing hot a few times

didnt even realize that the wireing harness was there... but its been fixed now...

live and learn... :thumb:

:thumb: Sweet. One of these days I need to cruise back down to portland. I am up here in spokane. I saw that you guys had a intresting wreck with 2 plonkers in Integras down there. Made the news here. They were blasting over 100 mph, one lost it and spooked the other one and they both ate it. From what they said no one was hurt, just totaled the cars:laugh:

here are some pics as an update... this is where the dump goes now via a 2" flex tube... sounds badass reverbing off the ground (old school muscle car trick)

and heres the last one, this shows the extension from the top. i added a strip of plumbers tape to the top so it has a backup incase the clamp fails, which i doubt it will, that things is on there tight =)

Sounds like my wiring disaster on my old Talon, LOL main harness.

Took me about 6hrs to seperate/cut/splice/retape/etc. fun stuff!
Not dump related though.

My dump on my new Talon is *way* too close to the alternator *cringe*
I get the radiator/battery/alternator lights when i go WOT, but they go off when I let off.
I think it's the force of the exhaust air pushing the flex into the alternator, it melted off the orange ground cap thingy, so I put some high-temp RTV on it, but it still does it, bleh.

This is a very interesting thread...learned a lot. You guys are making me rethink the O2 dump now.

well just make sure you don't get a homemade dump, they might be cheaper, but they usually aren't made right, hence my flex extension. I think it was made for a 1g anyway.
I dont have any wires in the way or any other problems.
I'm just gonna replace it with the right one. :)

Here are pics of both which would you put on your car?? And i have a Evo III turbo.

I'd go with #2, dump tube is nice and close to o2 housing.
I also had to remove my a/c fan because the o2 sensor would hit the shroud and ground out/blow the fuse, forgot about that :D

That sucks for sure...sorry to hear.

How long had you had the external dump on before you had the problem?

I guess I'll probably use some header wrap and fabricate a heat shield of my own.

since you have a 2g, you wont have any wires or anything under the dump to melt, i dont have a heat shield or header wrap.
the o2 sensor fuse blowing was immediate.
the 3-lights of death coming on at wot was a few months later, just gotta glob on some more rtv on the alt. nut so it dont touch :)
