I was driving home and I took it out of 5th and put it in 2nd to go around a turn. When i put it in second, it went into gear and then it kept going farther back. Now everytime I put it in 2nd or 4th it feels mushy and I can never tell it if is in gear or not. I have to let the clutch out to find out. If i let put it in gear slowly, it feels fine, but if i pull it back quickly it feels really wierd. I dont like it.

well im gonna ask why did you went from 5th to 2nd. but im thinking you might of streched the shift linkage cables. can you discribe the wierd feeling more? cause its kinda vague to me.

I know it sounds bad that I went from 5th to 2nd but I was slowing down for a turn. I pressed the clutch and slowed down, then put it in second to pull away.

If I put it in second really slowly I can feel it go in, but when I do it normal speed it is hard to tell if it is in or not. Once it gets to its normal spot it keeps moving backwards. Past the normal position it feel like pulling on a piece of a bike tire tube. It is stretchy. Also I had a friend shift from first to second while I looked at the tranny under the hood. Once it goes to second the rubber accordian lookin think keeps stretching.

How hard would a shift linkage cable be to fix, and how much is the past. Oh, and it is only in 2nd and 4th that it does this.

It's more than likely your shift cables. I had the crimp on one of the cables come off and cause my 2nd and 4th gear to do the same thing. You put it in gear, but you can't FEEL it engage. You can either recrimp the cable, which is a PITA. I did it once, but it broke loose again. Only other option, which I recently did, is to buy new cables.

I went to advance yesterday to see how much they cost and they dont carry them. Am i going to have to go to satan? How much did they cost for you? And how hard were they to put in, I dont feel like paying someone else to do it.

reibies or napa should have one. Or a wrecking yard. And id go with a haynes manual over chiltions i dont know how their mitsu manual is but their ford manual was a horrible thing.
