Been doing my build for about 3 weeks now I am so close to getting done but I am becoming overwhelmed.

Here is my Story in Feb I bought the 99 GST for $4000 had slips for all the work that was done to the engine and everything it had 750 miles on it when I got it.
I drove it 100 miles to my house but then Living in Fargo ND we got some snow and crap. So I left it parked in the garage driving it just to the store and back like 3 miles. Here and there noted some strange things like a Vibration at certain RPMs random misfire and dieing because of the BOV.

Then one night in late Feb I took it out for a drive. Ran fine besides the random misfire and Vibration. Then a buddy came over and we where BSing he asked if he could take it for a spin I figured why not he went down the road got about 3 houses away and I heard a strange noise then bam total lockup. Pushed the car back to the garage a few days broke down the engine to find a spun main bearing and a broken rob bearing. Took the crank in found that it was to bad to fix. Had the block checked it was to bad to fix also then found that the build sheet I was shown was for a different car or engine. No eagle rods or arp head bolts. No 3 stage clutch etc about $2500 in parts that where listed where not on the car. So I ordered a long block 6 bolt with a 2g head.

Now today I have the new long block in and all I have left is the starter and shafts. I am actually scared to start the car.

Just feeling overwhelmed so close to being finished.

Just relax and take your time, what happened to you sucked I wish there were more honest people in this world.

Make sure everything is right and double if not triple check things, it also helps to have another set of eyes/ another brain around.

just take your time and focus on doing one thing at a time dont try to do 10 different things and get side tracked and forget to tighten something sucks what happened good luck on the build

Like stated, just take your time and make sure everything is buttoned up. I was in your shoes last fall. Just finished a complete rebuild and fired her up for the first time. She started up and ran great though. LMK if you need any help with anything, as I am also from Fargo.

Just curious, Why did you go with a 6 bolt? It's a lot more work for nothing if you ask me.

Im sorry. I went through a situation, not quite as bad but similiar. Had an engine built for 3 grand, put it in, and after a couple hundred miles the #4 rod started knocking. They didnt machine the crank right.....
I too am curious about the choice of 6 bolt but they are known to be stronger. Good luck with everything.
That guy that sold it to you is a real POS. Wheres the honor in people sometimes?

What happened to you really sucks man. It's really hard to turst people, that's why I try to stay away from modded dsm's, with receipts or without receipts. Take your time with it, I'm sure it will be ok. Good luck.:dsm:

The reason I went with the 6 bolt is I ordered the engine from a buddy I grew up with in high school. He had it setting on the shop floor and it was the price of a short block. So I got the long block for $2000 and I trust him. I wanted something from someone I knew would do me right. Thanks for the encouragement.

Ah, at least you know it's a good engine. Hopefully you have better luck with this engine.

Is this long block you got from your friend built or is it stock? $2,000 is kinda steep for a motor that was just sitting on a shop floor. I mean I know you trust the dude.

It has some parts upgraded pistons and rods arp head bolts fully rebuilt head bored .20 over The only things I had to add was alternator power steering pump starter intake and that was pretty much it. The Engine was actually only $1700 but having it shipped from Indiana to North Dakota was $300.

Don't worry, when you fire her up and break her in and hear that turbo kick in, you'll forget what happened to the car in the first place =D

Good luck man I am sure it will be fine since you are the one doing the work/knowing for sure what you have it the motor.

I am kinda in a situation like yours as we speak. I Bought a 95 GST from a guy who said he had the bottom end done with .20 over, stock pistions, arp bolts, rebuilt t25, and act 2100 nothing special just stock rebuild mostly. I have had the car for almost 500 miles now and the first 200 miles was a nightmare. Tons of little things all over the car going wrong lets just say i never got reciepts from him and i want to second guess that the motor was even touched. It is running ok for now, so we will see what the future brings for me.

DSM > JDM

You're almost their bro! Through all the effort and struggles
Comes a great start! ;D ! Soon you'll be done with her, like all the other DSM'ers have said, take your time don't rush or multi-task the parts you're doing c and you'll be fine! Everyone is here to help and everyone is very respectful and polite on the site! :)

Check, check, and recheck everything. Specialy if this is your first rodeo. You should be fine. Good luck! I would drive over to the persons house that you bought the car from and have a few words with him. Probably throw the old short block through his windshield. But thats just me.

Thanks everyone for all the support Just figured I would post a picture
of the finished product just need to fill the fluids and start her up.

Yeah I have learned my lesson no more buying pre-modded cars unless I mod it myself. Good luck hope it works out I know I can't wait to start mine and feel the turbo kick in and throw me back in the seat.

Very sexy engine bay. I also have a 2g with a 6 bolt. The bastards always give you trouble on first start up. Make sure you check for boost leaks before you think its something due to the swap. Also if you have a green top cas and are worried about misfire get either a black top which helped me or get a flash since yours is 99 correct?? You have the black top flashable ecu.
