Oh, another tip is to skip the bestbuy type tripods right away!

I have this one and it's great (well, until you pass 3 lbs LOL)

Bogen / Manfrotto | 785B Modo Maxi Tripod | 785B | B&H Photo

Although you have to manual focus on your D40, get the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 to add to your arsenal. It's ~120 new and teaches a shitload about photography in general, not to mention it's unparalleled for quality/price.

You wont appreciate how sharp a prime lens is until you use it. I picked up a canon ef 50mm f/2.5 compact macro 1:2 and the first images I took, all I could say was wow as to how sharp they were vs. my kit lenses.

They wont be sharp wide open, but man for the price the 50mm f/1.8's are just great, with the 1.5x dslr crop factor it's 75mm which is a fairly good portrait lens... but the bokah isn't that great all the time cause of the 6 appeture blades (for the canons at least) idk about the nikkors but I"m asumming they're prol the same.

all i get is red x, im usin a Govt. cpu and it wont allow me to see images from places like photobucket, imageshack etc... but i can see them if they are attachments.

Congrats on the new camera. I need to upgrade from my Canon s5is LOL auto setting is as good as i get with taking photos though LOL.

Well here ya go attachment style. I'm reorganizing my Lightroom library of about 9000 images so these are just a couple i found off the top. I'm kinda pissed cause the last 300-400 images i took for HDR photo's either got lost ( I hope) but I most likely didn't import them in my workflow and they're gone. Stupid me. So heres a random sampling.

BTW my favorite one is the B/W light poles in the alley.

and that's me holding the N80 for a self-portrait (notice the ghosting of my fingers).
