My new 99 GST hesitates or misses when i get on the gas in 4th or 5th

I just bought a 99 eclipse GST Convertable last week and i am now trying to trobleshoot my first problem. When im in a higher gear maybe 4th or 5th and just cruzing then i push the gas to accelerate, when i do this my car hesitates or misses and it can do it multiple times if i keep on the gas. The car kind of jerks when this happens too. WHere should i start to look for the problem? My car is stock and i just changed the plugs hoping that would help but no dice. Any ideas guys? Thanks

Well autos don't have a 5th gear so it must be in your 4th gear. Your 4th gear could be wearing out or already worn out. There are several different things that could be the problem if it is infact your transmission. If that is the case you will probably have to have the transmission pulled off and checked out.

Before I go all hands with the transmission I would make sure you are getting a spark in all 4 cylinders, check all hoses to make sure they are connected correctly, check your fluid levels to make sure they are at the correct levels, and make sure all the maintenance is done first. Do a compression test and if possible use a logger on your next ride and it will help tell you anything that could be wrong with your car.

go ahead and make sure that you have spark at all the cylinders. It sounds like a miss under load to me. But go ahead and check you fuel filter, it could be getting clogged and when you try to pull in fourth or fifth it aint got the fuel to go, but the jerking sounds like a miss to me.

Replace the plugs with NGK BPR6ES gapped at .028", and treat it to a new set of plug wires.

Find whoever put Denso plugs in there, and see if you can find a slingshot.

Well maybe next time you should specify that instead of sounding like you have an auto and don't know what gear you are in saying stuff like "maybe 4th or 5th gear".
