My dead Ecu.. help

Hey..

I have a 90 tsi awd 5 speed... went to start my car last nite..

The car started up fine... ran for a little bit then started to die out.. all the lights inside and out became dim and the car started to run like crap..

Eventually.. it was close to the point where it was going to stall out.. so i pressed the gas and the car berely rev'ed.. so i just turned it off..

I tried to start it again and it wouldnet start... i waited about an hour and a half and tried to start it again and it worked... but did the exact same thing again.

The last time i tried to start it... there was alot of clicking under the center console.. i havent tried to start it since...

Any ideas what the problem is????? I think it may be the ECU..

hey..

I also noticed on my Datalogger that the battery get's sucked down to 8 V when the car is on its way to stall out...

could this be a battery or alternator problem and not my ECU???

Im guessing its the alternator or the belt. If you have an Advance or something to the sort near by. Most of the time they can test it for you (alternator that is). Its not recommended due to voltage spike, but I have to say I am guilty of the old pulling the battery cable to see if it dies trick too. Def. check the simple stuff before looking for a nearly impossible to find 90 ECU. Goodluck.
