This was done last year, but I decided to share it with you anyway. After having S&W rollcage in my old car and seeing numerous pre-bend cages, I finally decided that it's time to bend and weld my own. The original idea was to have a street/drag car but that never turned out. The car is pretty much track only, but hey ... that's nothing new in the world of DSMs. I always wanted a very tightly tucked in cage that you won't be able to notice, since the local law enforcement in my town gets excited easily and it looks good, so I made it. The cage is 1.625 (0.083 wall) 4130 chromoly and it's certified to 8.50s. It took forever to make it, and fit it all in, since it is snug very tightly around all the body panels, but end result was worth it. Here are some pics of the whole thing:

Between the cost of the chromoly, plates, gussets, welding material, gas, grinding wheels, holesaws and certification it was about $1000 and WAY too many hours of fab work & putting the interior back in.

Why did you stop with the cage over the back axels instead of extending it all the way?I can't beleive the interior still fit LOL..It's a really kickass cage tho..And why no cross member in the back between the rear quarter windows?

Kilo4, I probably could made a bolt in cage, but I could not sell it for a reasonable price that people be willing to buy it for. You are probably best off buying one from S&W Racecars and just bolting on the car as opposed to welding it in. Their cages are for our cars fit decent and are relatively inexpensive.

Bud92gsx, I chose to terminate the cage at in the rear b/n the two strut towers because I didn't see any point to go all the way to the back. I am eventually gonna cut all that out anyways. Plus I wanted the cage to be as stealth as possible. Fitting the interior was a huge pain. The headliner actually does not come off the car and neither do the top plastic pieces of the B-Pillars. I did not put an x-brace in the back because of the stealth factor also :)

Yes, it is 4130 and it is all Tig Welded. When you go to certify it, they won't even look at it if its not tig welded :)

That car in the background is my old RWD DSM. I build a 25.1e tube chassis for it and never finished the rest of it. It's sold as of December last year. Its new owner (can't tell you who it is) will actually finish it. The chassis weighs in at about 350lbs and the car should be stupid fast :D
