I hated my boost creep from day one ever since my 14b swap. So I finally decided to fix it, so I figured I'd get myself a late Christmas present. I sent my manifold to SlowBoy to have it ported and have it flanged for a 38mm Tial wastegate. I also bought the WG and a new manifold gasket from them too. Well, I just received it today and I though I'd share some pics of their work. They did an awesome job on the porting and an even beter job welding the stainless flange to the cast manifold. Here's some pics. :dsm:

Stainless welded to cast iron??

Do they have some way of welding it that will prevent the metals from expanding at different rates?

I love SBR and all their products, but I really, really hope that doesn't end up cracking on you....

The welds do look very, very nice, though.

Hopefully this will hold up for you. Welding a cast part is a very difficult process. I too would be concerned with the dissimiliar metals. It isn't easy to get everything up to proper temps. I read about it a few times and they say the best process is to heat the part up uniformly in an oven to a certain temp, weld it, and then put it back in the oven to cool down slowly and uniformly.

I had it done at a local shop to my 2g manifold ... last a year without cracking and then I switched to a sbr manifold and had it done again at the same shop. If it's done right it will hold up great. Cost me $100 with the flange. ( picture is sbr manifold )

Well, SBR Is casting their own manifolds, right? How hard would it be for them to just cast it with a flange for a Tial 38 on there? At their price, it would be hard to argue. Also, why doesnt SBR cast T3/T4 style manifolds to compete with all the $5-600 manifolds out there?

You have read my mind...... our cast manifold with 38 MM flange will be ready in twelve to sixteen weeks...... t3/t4 style manifolds shortly behind that one.....

With the WG itself, both flanges, porting, welding labor, and shipping both ways, I paid like $397. Well worth every penny IMO. :thumb:

yea I paid around that price too for all my external stuff. I need to come see your car man ... I used to live in st. joseph, MI and I still go back and visit sometimes. One of my friends ( zach ) says he knows you. :thumb:

I was under the impression our manifolds were cast steel
I have welded wastegate flanges on them in several cases...hmmmm

Horray!! Will you by chance be supplying these manifolds to AGP turbo for use with their T3/T4 turbo kits? Ben told me that they will no longer be using SFP manifolds with their kits in about 6-8 weeks.

Yeah, Fat Zach..... He's cool as hell. I just stopped by his house last week to borrow one of his cracked 1G manifolds so I could get my car running to move it. He was telling me a little about you. I think Zach's coming out to my garage on Thursday...... Let me know if you ever head over this way....

yea man .. my car should be up and running in like 2 weeks. I just need to break the engine in and I'm sure I'll be heading over to st. joseph once it gets a little nicer out to roll by the beach. I'll hit you up or have zach call you when I come visit next.

I kept saying the same thing. My car will be running in 2 weeks. This time I'm hoping I quite buying more crap and actually have it up and running in 2 weeks.
