It's probably already been done...but thought I'd share...

So I recently promised a local a 3rd brake light...i used to have 2 (both from a gst/gsx)but mislocated the one so I gave them the one off my car...well that left me without one for the one I'm building. So I traded him his low rise 3rd brake light for my gsx 3rd brake light. The harness is the same so it plugs right in, but to it back in its 'original' place would be dumb, so I thought...:hmm:

And this is what I came up with: I cut the harness and added around 3-5ft of wire, then i got a piece of double sided tape, then stuck it at the top of the glass, only temporarily til i can make a bracket of some sort. Here's the result. What do you think?

i saw this in person last night, and the light is LED just like the round tail lights...looks amazing. Im so stealing this idea!

You should take some pics of it in the daylight and at different angles so we can see how it looks on the car. :thumb:

well, the car is currently on jackstands...in a badly light garage with window tint...so... LOL

I definitely think this would help me decide if I like it or not, but from just your pics, I would say it looks good.

hard to see, but you can kinda see the double sided tape up top.

Pretty clean installation. Does the light get distracting at all? You know, being inside the cabin and possibly shining into the hatch areas as well as out the glass.

I prefer stock tails, but I have to admit I appreciate the qualities of the 3rd light in conjunction with the round led style tails.

thank you. I mean I can tell its gonna be a bit distracting but I could probably fab up a case (similar to the regular 3rd brake light, maybe cut that in half to cover the light) and see how that works

I would definitely try to do something like this if I were you. The light shining into the interior would annoy me and look kind of half-assed from the inside.

honestly, I kinda like wit without the cover. when my gsx was running the cover dell off...so I had a white bulb always shining in my face

A really quick and easy way to set that up might just be a strip of electrical tape. :hmm:

another grey piece that actually housed the taillight would be more 'natural flowing' than electrical tape. i won't do anything about it, because i dig how it lights the whole hatch area, but if i can come up with any clean cut solutions, i'll share.

I will be in need of the third brake light like this, exactly what I was going to do, looks good so far.

to cover the bottom of it so it doesnt shine down, just use a few layers of paint.

Thanks alot for idea man! I saw this and had to do it today. This is how it came out. Thanks again. I'll take a pic. tonight to see how it is at night.
