We are in need of putting a new muffler on our '96 GS automatic. I don't want anything too loud or ricey sounding. The muffler on it right now is both ricey AND loud. I hate it, especially on the freeway.

What are suggestions for a QUIET muffler? We can weld on our own.......

is something like this:
95-99 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE N/T CATBACK EXHAUST MUFFLER RS | eBay

going to be loud? with the silencer in there?

I say you should just go stock exhaust.

I say you should just go stock exhaust.

that would probably be fine - I looked at rockauto.com and they wanted like $100 plus shipping for a muffler - seemed a bit high to me for just a stock muffler? guess I'll call around to the auto parts around here and ask prices......

You can't compare the exhaust sound of a turbo car to non-turbo car, there is NO comparison. A N/T with a straight through muffler will sounds loud and ricey, that is just the way it is. The turbo is an exhaust restriction in and of itself and makes the exhaust sound so much more mellow. I vote for using a stock muffler if you want it to be quiet.

flow master is close to stock but gives you a little rumble

My son has a flowmaster on his wheeler (Pathfinder that we did a SAS on), and I really dislike it! It's WAY too loud :p I'm going to go to the local muffler shop and see what they think and what they'd charge. I'd rather put it on ourselves and save some money, but stimulating the economy is good too :thumb:
