Has anyone tried this product as an alternative to re-wiring their fuel pump. The posible failure of the relay has kept me from performing the fuel pump re-wire mod...

Possible failure of the relay??? What about the stock relay thats in your car now? That is more prone to failing then a NEW 30amp relay. Screw that MSD "booster"... you are gonna spend 100 something for that thing, when you can do the rewire with relay for under 20 bucks!! hell i had the wire and connectors, all i needed was the 5 buck relay, and 3 dollar inline fuse holder.

But, it also allows for increasing the voltage above 14 volts? I searched a while back on the Fuel Pump re-wire and found several posts that indicated failures of the relay. This is my daily driver and it needs to be dependable...

you dont need more than 14volts. These pumps (stock and walbro, or Holley) are designed to work off of 12-14v. Id only recomend one of these boosters is if you had an all out race car where your running a HUGE pump that needs that extra voltage.

i personaly have not had any problems with the relay. If people are having relay problems, then they did something wrong, or got a cheap relay(less than 30 amp)

Well, RRE suggests one of the following relays, so I guess I will pickup a spare and keep it handy. Thanks for your insight Fattie92.

Bosch Part #0 332 204 150
Hella Part #960 388 07
Porter & Brumfield Part #VF4-45F11

Thanks again!

yeah thats what they suggest.. but trust me, that bosch relay is NOT cheap!! I opted to go to a well known electrical store and he gave me a 30amp relay SPDT for 5 bucks and it hasnt failed yet... i believe that bosch relay was 20 something bucks

It's a bosch relay...

I replace crappy generic relays all the time in hvy equipment. Do I put the made in china POS relay back in... Hell no.. I use a Bosch or Tyco relay... never fails again if it was just a relay failure. If someone did something stupid like smashes a wire loom and shorts something yes it will kill it just like the others.

On the Denso pumps voltages above standard 14.4v or so of an alternator get gains. If he needs more fuel than what that will get I doubt it.

I bought two relays and put them next to each other. If one fails I can unplug it and plug in the good one. I haven't had one fail since I did the rewire over two years ago. A 30 AMP relay is a high enough rating that most upgrade pumps won't even tax it's capacity.

The voltage in higher RPM's is actualy less then what it is at idle. You might get 11 or 12v at idle, then if you take it for a high speed run, you might see that voltage drop to 10v or even i heard one guy say his went to 9v. But then, some peoples voltage will stay the same, and not vary to much. You might get 12v at idle or KOEO (key on engine off), but now go check your battery voltage..around 14ish? The bottom line is, The stock wires suck. NO matter what, if you put in a upgraded pump, or leave the stock one in there; it should be rewired. Especialy if you want to make some power. The rewire is CHEAP insurance. Do your car the favor.

The voltage coming off of your alternator while the car is running is ~13.4-14 volts.

This is _plenty_ for a fuel pump (with adequate wiring, so it actually sees that voltage level). That "Voltage increaser" thing is a bad idea, you're asking to wear out your fuel pump quicker (they're designed for a particular voltage).

Relays won't wear out any faster than a fuel pump if they're not $1 POSs.

What the box does is raise the voltage while your in boost. This is a good thing...

And it wont cause the pump to wear more, because it has less voltage than a rewire most of the time.

It will probably cause less pump wear.
