Alright i was thinking of putting in one of those Flip out DVD/radio headunits in my car. But before i go ahead and blow 300$ on a "Cool looking one" i wanted to see if anyone has one already installed. And i wanted to know which one fits in our cars. i found one on youtube that looks cool and fits but im not sure if i want that one

Here is the link for the one from youtube

LILLIPUT GL701-NP/C/T In-dash Motorized TOUCH SCREEN - eBay (item 320373361511 end time May-28-09 18:13:11 PDT)

I always liked those "eonon" players on ebay but i dont know if they fit!?!?!

Any standard single-din headunit/tv/ or whatever will fit in your car. The one on your link looks cheap and its offbrand. You dont have to spend much more to get a real, quality piece. You can get brand new Clarion flip outs for $300, or hell, if you want put a Pioneer in there. they are the same price.

I used to have an Eclipse double din tv/dvd/touch screen in my 2g.

would this fit? i am assuming since i put an alpine headunit in my previous eclipse, that i would dissconnect the plug that leads to the "iso port" and plug in the factory plug into that.

I dont know why that ISO port is there. Im guessing it comes with another pigtail that goes into that or somthing. All the headunits I have installed have loose wires that wire into the aftermarket harness, then plug into the car's factory harness.

ISO port is used in other parts of the country, its really just a simple plug and play. It makes it very easy to install. Too bad we dont use the same standards.

You will have to cut that off and wire it like normal. Just follow the correct leads. The manual should label it, if not it's alls tandard coloring.

A lot of people use these less brands with success. Don't let anybody with no experience discourage you. Esp, from people who always list brand names, you know for sure its brand name or busts with them. The trade off us customer support, and the screen resolution might be lower, and GUI not as good, but it wil have loads of functionality. Oh, and I know because I have installed some of these before for friends. Just keep what I said in mind, if that's something thats fine with you, you'll be satisfied with your purchase.

It is featured pack and no other "brand" name offers osmething liket his for the price.

BTW, don't bother getting anything with a TV tuner, in case you have not realized, everything is DIGITAL now, and if not it is suppose to be by government mandates. So unless you want to buy a bulk HD converter box, it's not worth it.

As a brand liliput is fine. A LOT of carputer guys use their screens in their cars. I have a lilipu 7" VGA touch screen in my car, works great, and survived Canadian winters.
Mine isn't a motorized flip out/DVD player though. Mine is just a small computer monitor, that I have custom mounted in the double din.

No thats not how it works. Your going to have to cut the iso port off then connect the wires into your aftermarket harness that you need to purchase. It will then plug into the cars harness.

You are correct my friend. :thumb:

I ended up spend $350 on mine from crutchfield and it installed with relative ease. Looks real clean too. Here are some pictures. I couldnt be any more happy with this unit. it's a Dual XDVD-8183 with 7" Touchscreen. Dual also makes another model just like this one that includes GPS.

That looks cool. did you have to cut any wires for that one? oh and one more question what is that hole for in your center console? i have the same thing (plus 2 more holes)

What we ended up having to do for the wiring is pull out the wiring harness that the old head unit used (it was aftermarket too.) Then we cut all the wires from the end that plugs into the head unit. That left us with the connector that connects into the factory harness (with stripped wires) and the aftermarket harness that came with the radio. We soldered what wires went to which (speakers, power, etc...) plugged it in and it all worked perfectly. Sorry if that's a bit confusing. Ill post pictures when i get my car back from the shop. And as for the hole on the console, I have no idea what its for. It was like that when i bought the car. Eventually it's going to be where my bass knob will go.

you can find a them cheaper in the classifieds section of mp3car.com From personal experience boost and heavy shifting will make the monitor change angles. I would try to get a double din monitor that doesnt flip out.

I was going to go witht he motorized one, then I saw this 7in touch screen and love it. It does everything that a motorized one has, it just doesnt flip in and out. Just another option to look at.

Here is the link

WHY?! WHY DID YOU GET DUAL?

Seriously though, Dual is one of the off-brands that you should avoid buying. I own a Clarion VRX485D and couldn't be happier with it. Awesome sound quality and booming bass for my subs.

Seems as though you were directing this towards me...

Um, I DO have experience with off brand crap. I have owned and installed cheap in dash headunits. And they perform like what they are...cheap. I'm sorry but headunits are one of those things that you get what you pay for. The cheap units I have used have less than desirable sound quality, weak and slow motorization, and just an overall cheap look and feel. The one in the link that the OP provided was far from aesthetically pleasing, again, having a cheap look and feel. Not only will you get better performance from a REAL headunit....you won't get clowned for being cheap.

Do yourself a favor and spend an extra $100 and get a quality piece, you won't be sorry.

I'm not exactly sure why i got a Dual. It just seemed to have everything i wanted and for a good price. I couldn't be happier with my receiver. And if/when it breaks then ill get a real high dollar one. But this one works for now.

Not everyone WANTS or NEEDS what you do. And if this guy has posted this as what he wanted, then it tells you his price range and the features he wants..

Why not tell all potential GSX owners to get a damn EVO because the quality is so much better?

You are not helping at all and only thinking one sided. I like to think about it in all views. Thats why when people recommend car audio stuff I always tell them to check on their own because if they ask here, there will be people who say "^insert much more expensive brand name here^ or bust"

You seem like a pretty knowledgeable person when it comes to this stuff and you claim to have installed several. I like to put myself in the person's shoes. They only want to spend X amount but want all those loaded features. No way will they pay the reputable brand name price and most of those dont even come close tot he feature these have. Most of these people don't even bother changing speakers or amping them. So what use is high voltage outputs and multiband EQs etc. So putting that all in mind, and what they are asking about, I say YES, I've seen those and installed those and they work. All advertised features work and installs fine in our vehicles, but I also note that they have to realize the GUI sucks and screen resolution is not as great.

So to everyone out there, don't be intimidated by brand name bullies. These lower brands work. Get what you want for your price range, esp if you are not going all out. If you are worried about being "clowned" you should think twice about these materialistic superficial "buddies/friends/peeps" you are hanging out with. Remember this is your car, not theirs.
