So I spun a rod bearing in my 95 Eagle Talon ESi (5 speed) and just so happened to have a spare eclipse (auto). The motor ran fine in the eclipse. We rebuilt the head and put about 5000 miles on it with no problems. My dad thought it would be easier to swap the engines in the car instead of just fixing the bearing. So after swapping the engines my talon drove fine for the first day. Then it randomly started driving worse and worse. It would feel like its not getting power of randomly turn off at idle. I just need know where to start looking for the problem. Could it be the ECU? or Could it be a vacuum leak? Just throw any ideas so i can have something to test for. Thank you.

Can you give a better description of the problem other than "randomly not getting any power?" What specifically is it doing?

did your ecu have any problems before the bearing? if it didn't you should be fine there. you can swap an ecu from an auto to a manual without any problems. check all your vacuum lines and rev up the engine a bit you should be able to hear a whoosh or whistle from whatever is leaking "if it is leaking".

Not getting any power as in it doesnt feel as peppy as it supposed to feel. And I guess I left out a key fact. My car was sitting for three years. Could the ecu have died in that time. And I will try the vacuum lines.

No one has any advice? Really?
The problem is its such a vague and objective problem. You have no cel and you're going by "butt dyno" to say she lacking power (I'm not trying to smoke you or anything on this. I'm sure you're feeling the lack of power. I'm just pointing out the problem we would have in diagnosis).

It could be one of various things (or it could be a combination of various things ).

To start with, make sure that you have all your tune-up parts done (spark plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, oil etc.). Any one of these could cause lack of power. Your stalling out could be related to the same problem or could be a separate IAC problem. Yes, its possible that you could have bad gas, but that usually shows itself as stalling, hard starting and misfires (but not necessarilly). Possibly a bad O2 that isn't throwing a cel quite yet. Maybe there is an obstrution in the release of air (i.e. catalytic converter). Possibly a bad valve (do comp test). Who knows, this engine could have a bearing seizing up.

I don't know if any of that helps, but with the information at hand, those are thoughts off the top of my head.
