Hi guys im have a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse gs and recently bought a eagle talon tsi for 200.00 bucks i was wondering if is possible to swap out motors without being any problems i know im going to have to switch out the ecu and other components just wondering if anyone has attempted this! if any of you can help that be great.

Without being any problems? Absolutely not. Despite their outward appearance 2g turbo and n/t cars are entirely different under the hood. Absolutely nothing (maybe the battery...) is compatible. The conventional wisdom is that the swap simply is not worth it under almost any circumstances. What is wrong the the tsi?

the tsi is wrecked and cant be driven anymore it runs good just cant be driven!

if the years are the same or close you will need the engine(complete with wiring harness, ecu, motor mounts, and turbo plumbing.), trans, fuel pump. Im assuming this tsi is front wheel drive because the all wheel set up is more work and money. The engine/trans should be pulled and installed altoghether to get it set up. As far as the turbo plumbing, the sidemounted aftercooler will have to be installed just like the tsi. Understand it can be done if you have the tools to do it with.

I would go look for another Tsi shell and swap the guts into it. Doing the conversion is too much work and money; But if your still up for the challange; check out Joe420a's profile (on my buddies list). He has successfully done the swap.:rocks:

The tsi is a 1991 and the eclipse is a 95 so its in the same range!

first and second generation cars. The front and rear mounts won't line up due to their location. The 91
front and rear mounts are bolted to the engine and the 95 mounts are bolted to the transmission. Can still be done through fabrication but best results would be to swap the engine only. The only other mount issue you will run into is the left one. You would have to use the whole 95 mount. So basiclly you would just be doing an engine swap.

once again it just an engine swap, a common one at that. there really is no real fab work to install a 4g63 engine into a car that already has one. You don't have to take my word for it. I think it was Modified mag that did the swap some years back so just look them up.

You are wrong and it is not that simple. You are filling this thread with misinformation. The 420a mounts do not line up with anything from a 4g63 setup, it is not just a matter of swapping the motor and tranny.

correct you are. so just get a 2g trans and bolt up the 1g engine. there no more mirror.

Just stop posting. You don't know what you are talking about.

Motor mount points on the frame are different. Harness is different. Practically everything in the engine bay would need to be had out of a 2g turbo car, including a transmission/axles.

To the OP. Go do a search (Like you are supposed to do prior to posting anyway). The topic comes up every week, and the answer never changes.

im sorry. your totally right. not only is the engine mirrored but the bay as well. Im still thinking turbo to turbo swap. which is easy if it already has a 4g in it. thats the common swap. ive done the first gen to second swap but not with a 420a for that reason. so yeah it is a lot of fab work and really not worth it. So to the original post forget it.

Glad you realized what was going on here. For the record a 4g63t swap from a 1g to a 2g would not be terribly difficult (though it does present its own challenges) but any 4g63t swap with a 420a is very difficult and almost always is not worth the effort. It is possible but is usually significantly cheaper just to get a turbo shell and use that.

just get another eclipse or talon with a blown 4g63 in it and swap it out , thats your cheapest way and probly your best bet:thumb:

I know someone who did it(I helped him), that was the biggest mistake he ever did, 10 000 dollars later the car finally works... well even not perfect yet.
Just dont do it.

to OP, what is your experience with working on cars? i gaurantee even really experienced mechanics would not want to pull off this conversion.. it really doesnt make sense to when there are dozens of dsms just sitting around with bad engines that you could swap your good engine/trans into.

keep your gs for a daily driver should you decide to try and fix up the tsi.. bottom line -- can the conversion from 420a to 4g63 be done? yes, but take everyones word for it when they say its not worth the time and effort
