Hello i am new to the dsm world and i have a few questions that might help me on my path to performance now i am new so dont be too harsh on me though i expect a little hazing LOL. ok i have a 97 eclipse automatic 2.0 16valve dohc
1. i know this sounds stupid but why is my motor reversed form all the eclipses i see ? my motor and trans are backwards from all the others i have seen my motor is on the passenger side tranny on drivers side!
2. i would really like to have a faster throttle response. i have a 3" intake with a large filter good cool air flow to the throttle body.
but when i hit the throttle it revs but slow to return to idle is there something i can do to make it quicker?
3. i am installing a new cat back system soon in hopes that it helps a little with performance.

oh and just to answer the automatic tranny question i have bad hipps and cant push a clutch anymore so thats why i got an auto.

any suggestions will be greatly appreciated thanks.

I believe the 420a, which if you are n/t, is the motor you have. That, if I am not mistaken, is a MOPAR motor, where as the other variants are not. That motor, or versions very similiar, are put into alot of domestic cars. That may be the reason, maybe not.

For the throttle response, check your TPS and IAC motor for proper function. Then check your throttle cable and butterfly valve to be sure they are operating properly.

I had a 420a eclipse back in the day, did a TON to it, and it was very fun to play with...good luck

Also when you look in any engine bay there should be a facturing sticker which describs the motor in the vehicle, usually found on either the firewall, bottom of the hood, or above your strut tower.

As for modifiying the 420a has multiple bolt on parts available for it to increase your throttle response.
