just throwing this question ou there, what are the effects of worn motor mounts?. my talon's motor mounts are worn out and the engine moves a considerable amount, about 1 inch when you shift from park to drive, when accelerating, i guess my question is what causes motor mounts to wear out?? and does it have an effect on power??

stock motor mounts have small holes in them which makes for a comfortable flex of the motor/tramsmission. Over time the rubber inside the motor mount starts to crack from being brittle or from other elemnts such as banging through gears ( which doesnt majorly apply to automatics). I have solid energy suspension motor mounts in my car and for the little bit of extra money, its a great difference. Its a little more vibration, but for me it keeps the flex of the motor to a minimum.

Really bad mounts will make the motor/transmission clunk when you take off from a stop, or shift from park to any gear. Or from any gear to park.

If I was you I would try and replace them soon. This problem could very easily put weird torque on the wrong parts and you never know you might end up breaking something

+1 espically with AWD:aha: front wheel drive wount have as bad of a torque issue. Awd is a whole different story.

I have to start tasking note of models of cars around here. I keep forgetting to do that .I get in a haste to answer the question and dont look at the application. good call Gaines

If your sitting in your car and it vibrates a considerable amount or if your motor looks like its trying to break free from your engine bay then your mounts are bad. (or loose) i had this issue and checked my bolts and two of them were loose which fixed the issue instead of changing out the mount. Getting polyurethane mounts are light but much more durable for our cars. they go for about 20-30$

Thank for the compliment. Sometimes its good just to have other opinions which might lead to an oversight on someones part ( or mine). Im actually new to DSM in being an owner.. I used to race ( and still do ) guys with dsm all the time when I had my preludes. Thats how I got some of my knowledge of them. Im actually very well versed in Honda builds but Im starting to love this DSM world. So much earier and less tempermental than honda. Plus to build high boost in honda you have to do a crazy amount of work.

Ya I got my first dam when I turned 15 about two years ago, I dont know a whole lot of specifics on them but I read new stuff everyday. I know a lot of basic mechanics and what not, I'm currently going to school for it. But I hope to be building my first non turbo to turbo conversion soon, I've done a lot of research and planning I plan to start building a lot of these cars for my family and I, they are perfect for both power and fuel economy. I'd rake a boosted 4cyl over any v8 any day

stick with school, I went to U.T.I. in Houston. been wrenching on cars for almost 16 years now. im 29 and have built many many cars now.lots of mistakes, lots of successes, lots of learning, and it never ends. :rocks:
