I got ahold of a bumper to replace my hacked up one that came with the car when I bought it. I always wanted to try to mold and form the ends where the fog lights mounts so the air is forced into my fmic.
I scewed the screen in place than glued it onto the bumper with loctite quick grab. I removed the screws then I used bondo-glass to do the base forming. Heres the rough in pics.

Using bondo filler to feather out the imperfections. About 5 coats later and alot of sanding. I threw a coat of paint on.

After drying it doesn't match at all so I'm going to have some paint made up for me locally that I can get in cans.
I'm open to any thoughts or suggestions. This is my first time messing with bodywork so I hope it holds together.
Also, I'm not sure what fourm to post this in. Move if needed.

It might be better off if you backed it with something. I too just got into bodywork and it's really all experimentation. I like how it looks. I'd suggest you buy a compressor and air gun as well though. I just did a full paint job on my winter car for about $100US and it turned out mint. No more cans for me EVER!

That is very nice. Post pics when it's on the car with the fmic :thumb:

use that as a mold and pull a carbon fiber one off but you still need to take some of the pits out of the mold

I don't get what your talking about. I'm far from a bodyman and this was all just a big experiment. Please elaborate...

Here's the finished pics everyone. It turned out pretty good.

I like the molded part, nice job!

i've never been a fan of the 2" holes in the bumper. i realize you get more airflow to the FMIC, just not a fan of how it looks at all. but still, nice job on the molding part. did you ever get the spray gun and paint it yourself or what?

I think it looks Awesome...However those..Holes gotta go..... :nono: !!! Otherwise... :thumb:!!!

i agree with everyone....lose the holes...looks like your bumper got attacked by a giant hole puncher.... but other that that ... great work :thumb:

yeah, umm, about those holes....

well, as long as you like them.

Hahaha, you guys are killing me about the holes. I tell you what, they look way better than just cutting a big mouth and removing the whole line of bumper. Anyway, the project is about function not fashion.

I had the paint made up and put into aerosol cans. I used 4 -12 oz cans and 1 -24oz can of clear.
Thanks everyone,it turned out alot better than I thought.

How about- "Man, I like the way you spaced and centered your 3"in holes perfectly within the space you punched them out...with the giant hole puncher" ROFL

Looks real good.. It gave me an idea of what I would of done on my 1g if i wasnt getting rid of it.. I like the holes.. It gives it a "Come on and try me Beyotch!!" look to the front.. :thumb:

hey, just curious as to how you went about getting someone to mix the paint and put it in aerosal cans, did you go to a local paintshop? I'm repairing my bumper with fiberglass and I need to paint the fender/hood/and bumper, looks great by the way!, did you notice a difference in AIT?

Function over form? Perhaps you do not understand that a FMIC doesn't need to be fully exposed to flow all the air it can allow to flow through it? Do some research you would be better off without the holes and some proper ducting.

That being said it looks better than the stock bumper - the holes.

IMO if it's there USE IT. What i was trying to say about the "Function over Form" is who cares how it looks as long as it works.

Don't get mad and tell me i don't know anything about intecoolers and flow patterns. Just because you don't like it!

Do these look like shit also?

Well tell me then, where would the best place for me to duct air besides the front of the car?
Half of my core was tucked behind the bumper that is now exposed to airflow. WTF The whole object was to force more air into the core to try to lower air temps. Besides using methanol injection like some do.
You don't like the way I molded the fog light area? I remember years ago, I seen a 1g using tape to accomplish the same thing. I just thought this was a cleaner way to do it.

now remember, i like the way it looks... but 70 miles won't tell you much. give it a few more weeks to a month in the cold weather we're getting.

i hope it holds up for you though, becuase i know how much work that is, and it DID turn out nicely.

Try putting some black mesh behind the holes so they're not seen as well.
yeah, that would probably make it look even better. While your at it, make a write up,step by step of how you did this, for other people to enjoy.once again mad props.
