OP, these two sites will help tremendously and will have all the info you need to do both the timing and the head gasket change

2GNT.com - Timing_Belt_Replacement

And the Factory Service Manual for good measure:

I did something similar, used a small pair of pliers and held the cam gears against each other (grabbing the inside of the gears instead of risking ruining the teeth on the gear)

I loosened the cam gear bolts BEFORE removing the timing belt, then i adjusted it to TDC.
Worked great.

I did this too. THis way even if your cam gears turn everything turns with it

I think I also might have to pull my trans, it looks
as if a mount is busted and I see a oil spill on the trans
but I am not seeing where the leak is at.
But as soon as I get my laptop fixed I will post some pics.
Man I run into one problem after another.
I am thinking of just saveing up some cash and just rebuilding
the engine & trans, it might be a while but it would be worth it.

Hard to tell exactly what your talking about...
Drives side mount? Once you post some pics it should be alot easier to diagnose.
Never a bad idea to rebuild. How many miles are on it? What would your goals be with it?

Well my goal is to keep it on the road more than a week.:p
Really I wan't to just rebuild every thing, I wan't to add as much
hp as a could with out a turbo. But I am not wanting to spend alot of
cash on it because it will be a ddriver. I just wan't some light mods.
Let me see I am thinking header, bored tb, crower cams rods & pistons, valves, valve springs, retainers, valve guides, high flow fr, fpr, fi,
oil pan, cat back exhaust, radiator,
Blah blah blah. I wan't to get at least 225hp on a n/t. I just am not sure what
parts are better and not to expensive. Give me ideas on my build before it is too late.

I may be wrong but from what i read on previous threads bulletdsm has the fastest n/t and is only at 204hp on his dyno sheet, and im sure he spent a lot of money.. hope this give you a better look on how much you looking at when you go the n/t way. good luck

yes bullet hast he fastest N/t dsm so what your talking about bro is going to cost you alot of money to do. I would like to add that alot of people go turbo and use them as DD's and depending on how much psi you put out you can actually use the stock internals on a 420A with out a problem (correct me if im wrong)

so try looking into turbo vs N/T before you make your decision

He already said, he just wanted some light mods for whatever gain he will get without a turbo.

EDM; it sounds like you know what you want. You just need to look around and find the best price. Check 2gnt.com WTB/FS threads, I almost guarentee you will find something your looking for there.

Thanks guys, I will do some more researching before I start my build.
I am going to tear her apart this winter, so it should be done by the spring
well atleast I hope it is ready by then.

225hp without a turbo is near impossible. I know you don't want to go turbo, but if that is your goal then I believe that the Hahn stage II will get you in that range.

My headgasket is bad too but I'm just having a shop do it for me. The warranty helps ease my mind because i drive it to school and can't afford to mess up.

I might just pay my dad to rebuild it for me.
But first I got some more searching to do.
I don't know about going turbo because I don't need the car to
break down every other week, and it would cost alot of cash to add.
But that would be nice to have and I would be the only one with a 420a turbo around here.

This look ok? I had oil leaking out through the v/c.
It might be that the gasket is bad but I had just got a new one, so
I am not too sure.

Well I fixed the oil leak through the v/c, I got a new gasket.
Any way I see alot of white smoke comeing out of the
exhaust and and out through the catalytic converter.
What could be the problem?

I would definitely suggest getting the head off. A blown head gasket could make coolant enter the cylinders and blow white smoke. You said you fixed the external leak, but there could be some mixin inside the cylinders.

This does not look good, yea this is oil all over the under carage.
I thought it was from the time my oil filter fell off because they did not
put it on right when I went for a oil change.
I see oil driping but I am not sure where it is from.
There is no room inbetween the fire wall and engine so
I can't see anything.
I might have to pull out the whole engine.
