is it ok to use a HKS 272 intake cam with a FP2 Exhaust cam? I was wondering because i have a HKS intake cam and i can get a FP2 exhaust cam from a friend for cheap.

I am a pretty good tuner and as of now i run a PTE 50 trim at 25 PSI. I got every bolt on you can think of. I am losing power after 5500 rpm's or so because of the stock cams. I was told Cams would be the next item to upgrade for me to upgrade and that is why i was wondering if it would be ok. I have heard FP2 cams are based of the HKS 272's so thats why i figured it would work.

I have Magnus SMIM thats why i feel cams is my next upgrade. If im able to mix and match them i can get the set for cheap.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I wouldn't mix / match, but that's just me. No one else would know that they were there, but it'd drive me bonkers.

Should work though, they're pretty much the same camshaft. I think the FP2 is a "larger" camshaft than the HKS 272 anyway, so having that on the exhaust side would be optimal.

Get it if you want, but check the cam lobes for galling and / or scratches before you buy.

It appears the lift of the FP2 exhaust cam is .395"
I read an HkS 272 exhaust is 9.8mm, which is .398"

I cannot find the duration at .050" figures for the HKS, but the FP2 is 212*

If the durations between the two are similar as well as the ramp rate, it shouldn't be a problem. They should be pretty close I would think
Honestly though, I would stick with the matching camshaft for whichever brand, whether its the hks or Fp2s. There profiles are designed around each other, although people have had great results with mix/match cams with the 264/272 combo, but never seen different brands used together.

thanks for the info. I will probably just go with mismatching them for now unless somebody has a 272 HKS exhaust camshaft for sale. I really think there should not be a problem since people mismatch cams like 264/272. A 272/272 with very minor differences is not going to hurt in my opinion.
