Have you done a compression test? With white smoke I would suspect a head gasket before rings. Check your oil and coolant for mixing and do a compression test and post back the numbers.
Mike

Do a leak down test, you be able to tell if your head gasket is blown or if your losing compresion somwhere else.

Sounds like a headgasket, but don't rule out a cracked/warped head, since you have to remove the head to do the headgasket make sure the deck is true and visually inspect for cracks. just my 2cents.:talon:

You'll find people that some people prefer Mitsubishi MLS and some prefer the Cometic gasket. Make sure to have the block and head decked and cleaned almost to a mirror finish to make sure everything seals properly. Use ARP headstuds and Hylomar or spray copper gasket stuff and you shouldn't have an issue.

OKay did a compression test heres the numbers the closest cylinder to the timming belt was 0, then from there 160,180,190 thnx nick is that a head gakset ? thnx

okay so i did the compression test the cylinder closest to the timming belt was at 0, then from there it went 160,180,190 ,could these be something else reather then a head gasket?

Alright Guys, I'm having the same problem... White smoke out of the exhaust... mostly at idle and de-accelleration... Checked the coolant level.. it's fine so I don't think it's a head gasket. Did a compression test... cyl. #1 - 149, cyl. #2 - 151, cyl. #3 - 152, cyl. #4 - 150. Checked the turbo for play, but there wasn't much... not quite sure what is causing the problem... Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Just be careful, a bad head gasket can cause your motor to overheat, if you overheat your engine, you can warp it, if you warp it, you are f****d so be careful, especially on the turbo engine, all the extra heat and pressure on an alluminum engine is not the best if it overheats, no matter what kind of internals it has.

First of all this was your first problem. And if fact it's against the rules, but as it is a description of the thread and not the point of the thread, I will not report it.

White smoke is a sign of steam in the cyclinders which usually means water is getting in. The most obvious point of failure is the head gasket, pull your dip stick and dip in and out a few times and then pull it out, check to see it there is any coolant mixed in there (greenish fluid, smells sweet).

We have iron cast blocks, pretty much won't warp. The head on the other hand will warp like a freezby in an oven.

stay away from cometic they are garbage use a factory mitsu witha set of arp head studs

Cometic is a great head gasket it and used by many of the best DSMers. However, for nick a Mitsubishi MLS would work just as good.

hey guys, got the head off and i got it pressurized by napa and its cracked by the intake valve and one of the valves snapped! so i was wondering if anybody out there has a 2g head thnx nick

hey, i have read through this thread. From all the descriptions it sounds like i have the same problem. If anyone can take a look at my post it would be greatly appreacited. Its under Problem diagnosis-pg 1-need engine help on talon--by turbotalonawd95-- thanks
