megan racing exhaust vs apexi n1

I have had the Apexi n1 catback on my 95 rs and I loved it and now I have the apexi n1 down pipe with cat delete and apexi n1 catback exhaust on my 97 gst and I love it. I would say go with the apexi n1 but no need for just a muffler unless you are doing custom piping.
 
yea i dont want to spend over 150 how are the ebay mufflers and will just a muffler give me an increase in horsepower?
 
I just ordered the Megan racing catback for my car.. it as 380 shipped. I have heard good things about it
 
thanks guys and when i purchase my exhaust how do i get that slanted look and will just a muffler give any increase in horse????
 
A muffler alone will make the car louder but, I don't see it making any noticeable power difference. Increasing the piping size along with a free flowing muffler will give you the power you're seeking. That's why I suggested the 3" cat-back exhaust. Hope this helps.
 
stay away from megan downpipes with any kind of resonator or cat, they always end up rattling horribly, even if you dent it in with a damn hammer, it still will rattle LOL . and stay away from tanabe exhausts on ebay, poor/loose fitment and really raspy. you get what you pay for really.
 
I just got the Megan Downpipe for Christmas and a SRS cat back 3in exhaust off of ebay for $150 shipped too. I really felt a difference and heard a difference. I love it. And no, you wont get any performance off of just a muffler, thats all i had before my full exhaust and it did nothing for me.
 
It really depends on how far you go on your car for hp increase, i.e. high boost, bigger turbo more hp increase. As sliverbullett it will increase air flow and cause less constricting for the turbo.
 
yes a muffler will net you HP gains. nothing huge. but it will give you gains. but why spend 50 bucks on a muffler when you can get a cat back for 100 bucks more?

i guess if you got a welder and pick up a straight pipe for like 30 bucks, weld it yourself. that would be a cheap sound if thats what your looking for. match that with a gutted cat and for more HP + wake up the nieghbors.

as far as the slanted muffler, cars with systems like that are usually designed with minimal bends for better flow. so if you wanted to ADD a bend it would actually hurt your cause. unless you really like the look.

Its well made and love the sound but can any ppl with GS-Ts chime in here the last section of the catback with the muffler did anyone notice a crimp in the piping where it goes over the suspension? Mine has one and they said they are all like that on the FWDs so it will fit :notgood: else have this crimp? Other than that sucking its awesome
 
My buddy had an APEXi and now he purchased the ebay one. He notices a sound difference and doesn't like the ebay one as much.
 
I have a full 3in megan exhaust and I love it. It sounds so docile when im not on. But when its WOT the rumble turns heads....But it doesnt bolt up perfectly. But close enough for me.

Do you mean like a press bent crimp? Curious, do you have a picture?
 
i think this is the best budget exhaust:
buy a megan racing dp $100-$150 and a apexi N1 Exhaust TIP $150-$200

Take it to a welder/Muffer shop and have them weld the dp to the tip with 3' piping for $100

thats what i did and total was...$450:thumb:
 
I did my exhaust for around 320. I got a megan racing dp for like 120 shipped. Good deal. Bought a muffler, and had a shop use 3inch pipe to fill the gap. Trust me its much straighter then anything I see on the market. There are lke 2 bends that almost cant be counted as bends.
 
just be careful to not mix and match megan racing/apexi downpipes and catbacks. They have different flange orientations, and different lengths. I have the megan dp and the apexi catback, and I have to hack off the last flange on the dp put about 2.5" of extra piping an rotate the flange to get them to bolt together.

When did you get your Megan dp? Is it possible you got one of the old versions with the flange positioned the wrong way?

Yeah like BaileyBoy sayd the apexi n1 cat back will not work whit ebay downpipes you have to purchase the apexi n1 down pipe for it to be a true bolt on but if you have an ebay pipe you will need to cut your ebay down pipe and reweld..
