iam gonna buy the megan 4-1 2 peice header system, good or not so good? and also when i buy the headers should i buy the test pipe with it?

Whats the difference between a resonated test pipe and a regualr test pipe??

Thanks

so perferibly get the resonated one? and about their products have you heard anything about them?

Megan makes pretty good Downpipes for GS-Ts and GS-Xs. I've got a Megan racing muffler on my car. I'd buy another Megan product.

As for the test pipe, I'd like to see you pass California emissions testing with it.(you won't.)

When I had my 98 RS I had the Megan Racing headers. It's a 4-1 design, however, not a very good design. The end of the headers is inserted into the entrance of the downpipe and is bolted on each side. This might sound fine, but it doesn't seal at all. I had a nice annoying exhaust leak. But the fitment was great! My recommendation if you get these is to connect the two pieces together and have them welded together. Or, have the pipes cut, and have a flange welded on each end so you can properly bolt the headers to the downpipe.

i have a PaceSetter header on my car and it is 4-2-1 design. it fit great and i had no problem with flanges leaking. I bought mine about 2 years ago and have had 0 problems out of it the only thing i would have like to have changed on it is the 'collector' design. But overall a good system.

so how about i just weld the header to the down pipe that cool? or should i have flanges welded so i can bolt and un bolt. also say i dont get an aftermarket down pipe how abot then??

That's actually what I meant by connecting the two pipes and then welding them into one... The only thing with doing that is that you would have to install and remove it from under the car, which really isnt a big deal... All you would need is a nice thick bead from a tig for a nice clean look or if you dont care about what the welds look like, then just use a mig welder...

I would compare the price on this piece to that of a well known tested name brand and make your decision that way too. Megan to me sounds a lot like obx. I think I have a megan rear lower tie bar, it seems ok, but I do recall it was a lot cheaper than other brands. I will probably replace it. Go with a proven brand for our car such as pacesetter, then you won't have to worry about changing it later. Or, put that money towards a log-style turbo manifold and a little blower! bhee, he-

You can make clean welds with a mig welder. Most welders do. Just like any welding, you need to have the correct wire for the application, proper gas flow, power supply settings, wire speed, and technique. The most common reason people make crappy welds with a mig, (which IMO is about the easiest thing to weld with) is they don't use the right wire.

Or just don't know how to weld.

or they have the wire speed up way to high. ;)

ohh and xcelr8, pacesetter isn't exactly known for good quality. I would buy a megan product over a pacesetter piece anyday, and i don't own one of either brand.

LOL i aint worried bout welding it, i work in a welding shop, iam just worried about having good products and not having to deal with a crappy one,i know as it goes you pay for what you get, but i have heard for a number of people that megan was that bad, so i was asking for you opinions. so far it sounds good

Well either way, the fitment of the headers and downpipe is excellent and they are excellent quality as well. I would recommend them to anyone, as long as you took care of the welding portion before putting them on. :thumb:

Megan Racing sells very quality products. I am running a few of their products and have no complaints. I do agree with the others that the design on these headers doesn't look the greatest though.
