Those side clearances are fine. Have you decided on ptw clearances? Learning to do this yourself is a good decision. May be an expensive learning curve but youll know its done right.
I decided to tear everything down and remeasure everything so I was 100% sure of everything ptw clearance looks at about 4.8-5.1 give or take so im happy with that.

Where did you measure the piston? It should be measured on the skirt level with the bottom of the wrist pin.

It can be difficult to measure with digital calipers, it's best to use a micrometer. Another way to measure PTW clearance is to use a feeler gauge. Simply place the feeler gauge alongside the skirt, then carefully slide the piston down into the cylinder. Start with .002" feeler and work your way up until the piston and gauge feel like they're firm but not stuck in the cylinder.

Idk about using feeler gauges. Micrometer is the only way ive done it. Ptw clearance of .005 is a good number. Deff want to leave room for that piston to expand. Better loose then tight( not always :D ). Saw your post of the new crank. Howd you find that?

Guys for the ptw clearance you use a dial bore gauge and zero out the dimension when the dial starts to sweep backwards. Then i measured the skirt with a micrometer at the bottom of the skirt. I measured the bore gauge diameter in the micrometer and subtracted the difference. From what i read you want to shoot for .0045 ptw clearance minimum for expansion. This motor will be seeing over 30 psi so i want to leave plenty of room, I plan on ringing the top ring to .022 and second to 0.024. Do you guys file the oil scraper rings? Jnz tuning had one left, it may be the last one period?

I am also swapping out my turbo tuffs for eagles as this motor will be my first and dont want to destroy a new crank and expensive ass rods if i mess something up. Im also going to run the acl oil pump over the oem for the same reason. If everything goes to plan im going to build a second motor with all the goodies on it.

They can still order cranks from Japan. I got mine from them 6 months back or so, they ordered two from Japan at that time, my guess is you got the other they received.

I thought that those cranks were the last in inventory period. I don't think they are making them anymore

Oil rings arent usually filed. Theyre usually set to the piston. The compression rings are the only file to fit rings.

Im running the acl oil pump with oem straight cut gears. No problems as of yet. Oil pressure is pretty high.

The last in inventory in the states, yes. From my discussions with Jnz at that time more could have been imported, but weren't. My guess Mitsubishi Japan has a NOS inventory, and only exports to the US on paid orders, Mitsubishi does not have a stocking location for these things domestically. Things could have changed since though.
