so i am thinking about building my own ic pipes... i still have stock turbo and fuel, although i will probably change that next year.

i plan on using this basic idea: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-turbo-system-intercooler/57364-make-your-own-2g-intercooler-pipes-upper-s-pipe-full-upper-pipe-turbo-inlet-pipe.html

although i will be using aluminum.

i have a friend who will do welding for me(2 pieces, and 1g bov mount)
i plan on using a 3.5" gm maf that i got for free and a maft that has yet to be bought.
on the pre turbo side i will use a 45* coupler and aluminum pipe with a itg air filter, boxed in the corner.

i just can't decide if i should stay with the side mount, or get a core to fab up on the front.

also i don't know what size pipe would be best.

all help appreciated... and if any of you know of or have a 2g maft for sale, let me know...

I am using a 3 inch pipe. I have it all sitting next to me right now. I am going to mount the FMIC tomorrow and will have pics then for you

Well if you are going to be on the stock turbo for at least another year I would stay with the stock sidemount and save your money. Your not going to need a big front mount until you upgrade your turbo. If you do decide to buy one then make sure its going to be compatible with whatever turbo you decide to run in the future (i.e. don't buy a small core then buy a big turbo).

As far as pipe size goes. Dejon's IC pipe for the GM MAFT setup is 2 1/2" in diameter, then flanges out to mate with the 3" MAF.

They have a picture of it on their site if you want to check it out.

Well here's the deal a front mount is overkill for the stock T-25 so I wouldn't upgrade to a front mount untill you get a bigger turbo. Also another thing to consider, if and when you decide to upgrade to a bigger turbo the compressor housing will be in a different spot/angled differently so if you got your pipes all bent and matched up for the T-25 you'd have to do it all over agian for the new turbo. See what I'm saying?

i am familiar with these pipes, i was actually about to buy them when i decided i could do better, probably for less...

if i were to go with 2.5" pipes, would stepping up to the huge gm maf i got be ok?

would a small fmic core be ok for use on the t25 for now and then a 18g in the future?

should i just forget all of this until i get myself a proper turbo, with the fuel/tuning mods to use it?

As long as you can flange the pipe out from 2.5 to 3 inches like the dejon one does then you should be fine. I'm sure you can get a metal flange that goes from 2.5 to 3 at any local hardware store.

There is a big difference between the T-25 and the 18g....using the 18g and a small core would not be efficient and heat soaking it would be an issue. No need to buy a small core when you would just replace it with a bigger core later.
