ok the thing is I had an aftermarket 3" downpipe and the O2 housing and downpipe were 1 big piece. I got a new turbo ( SC 61 ) and it's not the one with the mitsu flanges. Anyways, I have to cut my downpipe and weld on a new piece and then weld the flange that bolts to the turbo outlet to that. Can any muffler shop do this for me? Is it common for them to have 3" piping? It's only 1 90 degree bend that I probably need ... how important is it that its mandrel bent at that spot? Also, muffler shops won't have any problem welding to stainless steel right?

1 more thing .. I got "aluminized steel" piping from JC whitney and cut it to make my intercooler piping. I just need it welded together and some pieces just beaded .. can a muffler shop do this as well or is it some sort of material that's hard to weld to? Sorry .. new to the whole welding thing.

right but how crutial is that it's mandrel bent and not crush bent at that point? The rest of the exhaust is mandrel ... but 3" coming out of the turbo which only has a 2 1/2" oulet seems overkill anyways .. so is crush at that point gonna hurt it significantly?

Your in illinois so if i were you i would take a trip to arlington heights ams who i'm guessing you bought the turbo from and i'm sure they can do it. All of the exhaust shops i've been to wouldn't touch the 3" on my car so i'm doing it myself.

I had to get my Thermal cat-back cut and rewelded because it went form 3" to 2 1/4" where it bolted up to the downpipe. Every shop I called had 3" but not stainless, and the thermal is stainless, but I ended up going to one right down the road and they had no problem welding a new piece on to make it true 3". And they welded aluminived to stainless no problem. About the mandrel bent question though, I have no clue man, sorry. Hope I helped some though.

Yea I would go to ams ... however I don't want to drive the car there without a downpipe on it. I have a custom exhaust manifold and the turbo doesn't sit exactly where it would with the stock manifold, so they'd have to have the car in front of them to line it up. I think I'm just going to get a 3" U bend that my friend has ( mild steel or aluminized steel ... he has both ) and cut it so everything fits and mark it off. Then take it to a local Tuffy and hope they can weld it to my downpipe.

Can tuffys or some other local exhaust shops weld aluminzed steel or do you need special equipment to do that? I got some mandrel bends from JC whitney and they are all cut but I need them welded together now....
