okay if anyone wants to help it would be greatly greatly greatly appreciated!!!

so i have 2 options on this mantainence thing atm so let me rattle em off.

First, I just rolled 110,000 on the ODO and i need all belts replaced and i dunno what else. So timing belt and serpentine along with water pump and i've also heard balance shaft. Again i'm not sure what needs to be done but i want everything replaced that needs to be done so i don't have to worry about something else locking up the motor. So please add info or link me to a site about any idea's.

Second, 6 bolt swap? i can get ahold of a 6 bolt pretty easy i'd say and put it in. The only problem with that is which one of these would be cheaper or the better idea.

Like i said the motor and chassis just rolled over 110,000k today. It's a 99 gsx with a 6 puck ACT clutch that hasn't been launched...yet (winter time.) In your case...What would you do? i'm fixing the car with some of my income tax and i have about 1g to put into it. No i'm not over hauling it. I want a reliable car and something fun in the same.

Thanks -Phil :thumb:

With a 6-bolt you have the better basis for future tuning. But if you have only a small amount of money, go with the 7-bolt and replace all what needs to be done.

First of all if your 7bolt is running fine after 100k you don't need to think about 6 bolt swap, unless you want to buy one for back up otherwise the 99 4g63t 7bolt was the best built between 95-99. Since you have a 6 puck act clutch if you have not already don't ride the clutch and i say disable the clutch start switch so you can start the engine without depressing the clutch to avoid stress on the thrust bearing.

Now to maintainence, get you a new timing belt and comps.(tensioner, pulleys etc.) new balance shafts belt, and if you want to you could eliminate the balance shafts the kit is cheap but the labor is tricky. While your in there get you new drive belts.

Stick with the 7 bolt.
Again 99's are the best years and even in the worse year its less then 5% of the cars that acutally walk.

Do all your Prevent. Maint.

MAPerformance has a nice little kit to get you started for the timing belt + BS belt.
Road Race Eng. Has a silicone hose kit to replace all your old Vac hoses.
Flush all fuilds from front to back and fill her up nice and fresh.

And depending on where you are going with her, Head Studs may not be a bad thing to upgrade so you dont run into trouble as quick later.

Thanks, Yea i just wanted to get an idea on what direction to go in. Everyone and their brother does the 6 bolt swap so i was using it as an option. Definitely not worried about crankwalk haha. I'll order my belts online and havem shipped but i'm going to be taking it to a shop. I've never changed a timing belt so i better leave it to a shop.

I'll be replacing all the belts and the water pump, balance shafts not gonna mess with the elimination kit. Gonna do the head studs for sure and anything else you guys say i should do.

Thanks so far for the idea's. -Phil

Thanks man that's a great kit/lineup. Gonna order it as soon as the income tax comes in. Maybe i can slap a fuel pump and injectors :D

Again thanks!
