Maft gm sensor with no mesh inside?!?!

ok i just installed bigger injectors in my car the other day so my friend and i were driving around trying to tune the car when the car started acting funny and the cel came on so we stoped and i went to a shop i knew the owner so he scaned my car for me said mass air flow sensor code. so i took the car home and tonight when i got out of work i took off the gm sensor to see if water or somthing got in it. i looked and the mesh was flapping around inside. i lucky had another one laying around it has alittle dents and srach in the mesh but i tossed it in. my cel went off so hopefully all is good. i was wondering if anyone had run a gm sensor without the mesh before and if theres a diffrence or not thanks for the input guys

Yes, you can run it without the mesh without any ill effects.

I would say leave one in that has a screen.
