So.. this might seem dumb...

What's the size of a Stock 2G MAF?

I know a common upgrade is a 3in GM MAF... so.. I take it ours is.. how large?

Depending on the answer.. I have an interesting find.. @__@;
 
Well.. See...

I went to get a replacement filter yesterday because the one on this one is shot. The 4in filter wouldn't fit without any of the inserts in it. I took my older filter.. and my old filter fits over it by 1in.

So... our Filter inlets are 5in?....Or did the PO possibly slap a huge MAF on this thing? >.<;;

xD All I know, is that I went to replace the filter yesterday and grabbed a 4" because I jusy eyeballed it. Took it outside and went to put it on and it was about an inch too small. I could fit the thing inside of the Circular opening. So I took my old filter and the new filter fit perfectly inside of it. I mean, it could be 4.5', but I just found it odd.

Just wanting to confirm the size of our MAFs because I'm trying to get rid of a small miss/backfire issue I'm having.

That should be what it looks like, correct? Cause.. mine doesn't. Is there a circular plate adapter that fits over that, or what? ... Cause mine is circular. @_@

Actually, are you talking about the stock air box? I'm was talking about the opening at the end of the mas. Its rectangular like below..

Edit.. Beat me to the picture.. But, yes you must have an adapter on it already.
 
Yeah.

I just googled "2g MAS Adapter plate " And saw results everywhere for 4.5'in.

Grreeeaat... Here goes $60 for a damned 4.5'in Filter.

Well.. If anyone else has this issue, they can at least search an easy title and find this thread. =/

Wait...

Could the added airflow be contributing to my somewhat lean condition? I know that if I accelerate too hard in 2nd gear that the car stumbles.. but if the acceleration is more moderated, the car pulls like a champ. 3rd gear has no issues as it takes a bit longer to climb the RPM Range. So a 4.5in Intake coupled with a 14b Turbo on a 2G could lead to the issues I'm having? At least contribute to them. I've almost got it resolved, but there's one or two more things that I need to figure out, maybe this one is it?
 
Hrm... So 15ish PSI on a 14b with a slightly larger intake amount wouldn't stress the system?

I'll try the above link and give it a shot.

Will removing the Honeycombs cause any adverse effects?
 
Don't mess around with either the honeycombs or the MAS calibration screw until you get some way to and monitor your engine and a WB o2.

"Hacking" the 2g MAS tricks the motor into leaning out the a/f curve while adding timing and can cause havoc with your idle.
 
Didn't plan on removing the Honeycombs. Just wanted the side-effects. I know 1G mods Vs 2G mods are different.. @__@

As for the screw.. I did just take off my MAF and checked it. It was screwed all the way out. I screwed it in a few turns and the car likes it a WHOLE lot better.

Somehow.. I'm overrunning the Injectors?
 
No bigger injectors for me until I get Link.. ^^ Hopefully next month.
